While I don’t condone what this man has done, it is foolish to jail him or even expect him to pay over $500,000 in child support. He will NEVER have it and to continue to expect fairy-tale cash is just stupid.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm............... Yeah, that's the ticket................. This is grounds for another federal bailout plan ........... "Do it for the children, don't ya know........................... And just think of all the RAT voters it will create...................... All that free money floating around in an ever expanding hood..................................................................... A community organizers wet dream come true.

I’ve had a goodly number of $3000+ days.

Unfortunately, these were often interspersed with weeks or even months of very little income at all.

Depends on how you get paid.

Ummmm, if this guy had any intention whatsoever of paying, he would have paid by now. Jail might give him some “thinkin’ time”... he needs it.

The courts refuse to give men the right to give up a child (e.g. for adoption). This stacks the deck; a man can always be charged for child support, but can never give a child up.

In contrast, the courts always give a woman the right to give up a child (e.g. for adoption), and rarely (e.g. for rich white women) charge a woman for child support.

Right now this disparity gets almost no press coverage, but it is an injustice to everyone except the child, one presumes. However, keeping by force of the courts such a man in a child’s life may not exactly be peachy for the kid, either.

If you aren't married to the guy, you shouldn't be allowed to collect a penny.

That would be great for the guy - but what about the taxpayer and the child? So if the man doesn't want to support his child who do you think should? Me? Me the taxpayer? Gimme a break.

I said "if you subsidize something, you get more of it."

That would imply that if a woman makes a baby without a husband, she's on her own. No government subsidies either, capische?

I guess you prefer encouraging unwed motherhood.

Obviously you are quite invested in father's rights issues. I agree that men can get seriously screwed by the family court system. No doubt. However, these children must be supported. I do not think it is unfair in the least to expect a man who fathered a child out of wedlock to help support that child.

How is it fair for the mother of the child to be the sole support for the child when it takes two to tango?

He will probably be marching with ACORN on Wednesday.

Higher taxes pay for more bennies for his offshoots.

That's great, but the unintended consequence is that you are encouraging women to make babies without benefit of marriage.

The best way to make sure a kid is going to grow up in poverty and become a criminal is to stick him/her into a single mother home.

There are "social programs" that do reward (in a sense) women for having children out of wedlock. Those programs have been disastrous.

But the whole "children from single moms will end up on drugs, involved in crime, in jail...and that's on a good day" rhetoric is all wrong.

Many factors influence how children develop in single-parent families; including the parent's age, education level, and occupation; along with the family's income, and the family's support network of friends and extended family. Disadvantages in these factors that often accompany single parenting appear to cause most of this association rather than single parenting itself.

**Sigh**

I'm sure that you're "feelings" are more important than facts, but I guess I'm just a masochist.

The victim of a system that he says saddled him with debt for children he claims aren’t all his and the victim of a poor upbringing that he said caused him to seek affection from older women.

Hey, if you honestly believe a check from the government and/or the sperm donor is the answer to all the problems of illegitimacy, then it's between you and your conscience that you believe in encouraging illegitimacy.

You obviously have plenty of issues of your own to deal with without worrying your empty little head about mine.
