I do not think it is unfair in the least to expect a man who fathered a child out of wedlock to help support that child.

That's great, but the unintended consequence is that you are encouraging women to make babies without benefit of marriage.

The best way to make sure a kid is going to grow up in poverty and become a criminal is to stick him/her into a single mother home.

There are "social programs" that do reward (in a sense) women for having children out of wedlock. Those programs have been disastrous.

But the whole "children from single moms will end up on drugs, involved in crime, in jail...and that's on a good day" rhetoric is all wrong.

Many factors influence how children develop in single-parent families; including the parent's age, education level, and occupation; along with the family's income, and the family's support network of friends and extended family. Disadvantages in these factors that often accompany single parenting appear to cause most of this association rather than single parenting itself.
