Good morning! I’m going to have to turn the a.c. on this afternoon. It was 82 in the house yesterday (at the thermostat - hotter upstairs) and only made it to 72 overnight. Yesterday morning it was 66!

I think my mom’s answer to that problem was “cold cereal”.

Still works today.

That’s what he’s having. When it’s lunch time (in half an hour ;-), they can have “Anzac Biscuits.” DP says they look like high-fiber protein bars (lots of butter), which makes sense if they were supposed to be nourishing to a wartime population.

ANZAC biscuits were a hit with the family, and I took some out to the neighborhood gravel project. There are still some left for supper.

Closed the house up, as it’s hotter outside than in. Maybe the ac will turn on; it’s set for 80.

Photobucket   To begin with, one last picture from the Colorado last night:

Photobucket  This morning I bought an all-day pass for city transit, so I could get about on these little trams and spare my feet a bit.

Photobucket  Photobucket  Photobucket  First stop was the Sibelius Park (aka Sibeliuksen puisto / Sibeliusparken) with the Sibelius Monument. I got there just in time. As I started to leave several busloads of tourists pulled up.

Photobucket   On the back (West) side was a nice view of an inlet but I'm not even going to try to essay its Finnish name...

Photobucket  Photobucket   Moving on, I next visited the Tempeli Aukio. This church is built down into the rock (there seems to be little soil around Helsinki -- the bedrock shows everywhere) and because it is ringed close with residence blocks is impossible to photograph unless one were to have access to upper floors of those buildings. Nevertheless, I tried.

Photobucket  Photobucket  Photobucket   Then I went on a jaunt from the eastern end of Helsinki to the Western, to visit the "Tuernio kirkko/Dom kyrka" -- I guess that means Dome Church. I was afraid that with lots of places to sit in the sun the steps would be thronged with the sun-seeking Finns I saw elsewhere, but it wasn't so bad.

Photobucket  Photobucket  The plaza in front of it, surrounded by pre-modern architecture, was dramatic. Dead Corpse, have anything like this in St. Paul?

Photobucket  Photobucket  And then finally to the "Uspenskin Katedral/Uspenski Cathedral" -- a dramatic Greek orthodox church I'd spotted a few nights ago.

Photobucket  The view from there was interesting. Above everything else rose the spires of churches, as with this one.

Then it was another jaunt on the trams back to the hotel, pick up my bags, and off to the train station where I caught the bus to the airport hotel.

Very interesting place! Did the sun-seekers have clothes on? When it got warm and sunny in Amsterdam in April, the locals started stripping! (Unfortunately ...)

Hello! Oatmeal and ground flax with peanutbutter and cocoa, here. Plus milkand Splenda.

How are you and your frisky fetus?

I don’t think they had peanut butter in New Zealand in 1916, or they’d surely have included some. Also chocolate chips! Der Prinz is wonking on the recipe to make energy bars; the butter makes it all stick together, unlike my granola, which just lay there.

We’re feeling okay. A little hot, but I plan to lie down under a fan with Wednesday in a little while.

How are you?
