Natural gas locked up in water crystals could be a source of enormous amounts of energy and if a new technology delivers what scientists are claiming, then it could even be emissions-free too.

The US Department of Energy is now working with the oil company ConocoPhillips on a field trial in Alaska (pdf), to test whether the technique can be scaled up.

Fire and ice ping.
I try to not go to that liberal science site.
CO2-emissions free? I doubt that.
Once again, an article that accepts that CO2 is a culpit in imagined climate change. The process of releasing methane is an admirable endeavor but to say it is needed to sequester CO2 is bullshit.
> Nevertheless, burning it still releases carbon dioxide
> and thus drives climate change.
They are insane.
Can we read just one, JUST ONE, scientific article without this stupid, rabid, mouth-breathing, pie-eyed NONSENSE permeating it?
When the world finally wakes up and realizes how WRONG the Carbon Climate Changers (C3) are, how FALSE their prognostications are, they will have done more damage to Science than any “scientific” hoax ever perpetrated before them.
Even now they must back off from Global Warming and call it Climate Change because THE EARTH IS NOT WARMING UP!!!!!
WE ARE FREEZING UP HERE!!!
COLDEST WINTER IN RECENT MEMORY!!! SECOND ONLY TO LAST YEAR!!!
Wow we could have flaming drinks!
From the rest of the article, you doubt correctly. The claim is that the methane is displaced by carbon dioxide in the extraction process.
Nonetheless, the thing is being done. Let’s hope they can extract the methane at reasonable cost by any method.
On the show “Ice Road Truckers”, they supplied a rig used in “research” on this. They all thought it was a great success.
Was on either last year or the year before.
I hope they find a way to use methane hydrates, or whatever they're called, by some means. That really could change everything.
Assessment of Gas Hydrate Resources on the North Slope, Alaska, 2008

The 1995 USGS assessment also estimated that the permafrost-associated gas hydrates on the Alaska North Slope may contain as much as 590 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of in-place gas.
We still have so much bounty left in this country, but if the leftist have their way, it will stay in the ground.
See? SEE?!! IT'S GETTING WARMER!
WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!
