Paper grocery bags are bad. Plastic grocery bags are evil. To "save" the planet and not be labeled as a delinquent, you must use reusable canvas or cloth grocery bags. It would appear that soon there will not be a choice of what you use. You will use the reusable grocery bag or not be shopping!

Whenever I see someone using these in the line in front of me, I always ask for everything to be double bagged. :->
If this starts getting any worse, I’ll just order in bulk from Amazon every couple weeks and have groceries and household stuff delivered to my door.
Well I never had back problems when grocery stores only had paper bags.
Gee, around here if ya ask for double bag ya wonder whether they are going to give you your groceries or not! Oh for the days of common sense.
The plastic bags can actually be used many times if you just don't put too much weight in them.
LOL :)
We use plastic grocery bags as bathroom trash can liners. They fit perfectly!
Like Hell, they are. Paper bags are the solution. They are reusable, biodegrade-able and recyclable. They provide American jobs
Plastic grocery bags are evil.
Damn straight they are..
Whenever they ask me “Paper or plastic” at the market (especially the “sensitive”, “gentle” or “environmentally sensitive” or “organic” markets, I always say that I’d like to save a tree or bush (No, not THAT guy) and have a nice plastic bag. They don’t always appreciate or “get”, my wisenheimer or ironic and smarmy comment.
People are so brainwashed and seem to have zero sense of irony or humor. It must be an Obammy thingy.
Guess which part of my butt they can kiss?
You too?
:-)
Ask for both, can they put the paper one inside the plastic?
Anyway, irony is like, so, Twentieth Century, y’know.
Wow, you're too cool.
I drain my motor oil into the lake near my house. I hope the ducks gag on it.
They still use plastic and paper bags at my local supermarkets, but they all also sell cloth reusable bags. Problem with those reusable bags is that they’re so tiny. You can only fit a few items in them. You can fit much more into the plastic bags.
I don’t know where you live, but where I am on the East Coast their is a service called Peapod that lets you go to their website, pick your groceries and they deliver them for a nominal fee. Meanwhile, the trunk of my car is FULL of reusable canvas bags from Giant, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and My Organic Market. And I have the summer designs and the fall/winter designs from each store. But I line them with large paper bags, which I demand from the pertinent store, so as to avoid them getting nasty. Go figure. This whole idea has the unmistakeable whiff of a 3rd grade class project.
In the grip of the Last Stand of the Hippies, the whole damn country smells like that.
Good idea. I’ll have to start doing the same.
I’v seen people bring back their empty cans in these things(getting the inside just gross and slimey) and then use them to put their groceries in. I think there must be some sort of sanitary issue here.
The ones I bought looked tiny, but I was surprised by how much was able to be fit in them. I like them for their sturdiness and we’ve been able to use them for many other things when we go out or travel.
