SAN FRANCISCO - Former Hewlett-Packard Co. Chief Executive Carly Fiorina has been diagnosed with breast cancer, a top aide said Tuesday.
Fiorina was diagnosed with the disease Feb. 20 and underwent surgery Monday at Stanford Hospital, her chief of staff, Deborah Bowker, told The Associated Press. Bowker said the surgery was successful and Fiorina has an "excellent" prognosis for a full recovery.
The San Francisco Chronicle earlier reported Fiorina's condition.
Fiorina is a Republican who served as an adviser to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign and has been considered a possible candidate for elected office. She has not announced any plans to run.
"She's keeping her options open," Bowker said.
Fiorina, 54, who lives in Los Altos Hills, Calif., spoke at the state GOP convention in Sacramento last month, urging the party to offer voters a positive agenda of lower taxes and less government.
She has a mixed record as an executive.

My prayers for a speedy recovery are with her and her family.
Get well, Carly!
Many also don’t like her for what she did to HP.
In any case, get well Carly!
Don’t get me started on HP! The customer service is pitiful.
There must be quite a few advisors to McCains Pres. run.
There is a gal on LKL who was an advisor and I am suprized the fellows here never picked up on posting her pic.
Very nice looking young lady.
In regards to this gal having Breast cancer surg. sounds like having surg at Stanford and the early reports of a success she is well on her way to a complete recovery.
Well, she made HP into the biggest PC vendor in terms of sales, and second best in terms of quality - a distant second after Apple, but still better than Dell and the rest. She was a respectable CEO. If HP wasn't neck-deep in the stinking crap of Microsoft operating systems, she could have done better on improving the quality of HP products.
The scandals at HP have gotten much worse since she left and Mark Hurd took over. The chairman and some employees got caught in a pretexting scandal and were forced to resign, and some executives have been prosecuted and convicted in other matters.
I wish Carly a speedy recovery.
Who gives a rat’s a$$ about some former CEO or whatever? My uncle has cancer, and he was a mechanic all his life, but he is just as important as she is. I am sick of turning everyone into a celebrity just because they did their job.
She’s an idiot who ran HP into the ground, then helped give advice to McLame! Man, what losers the GOP attracts!
