I am glad he is into Texas history. It’s odd, but good.

Well, Phil Collins just climbed a peg or two in my estimation. I've always considered the seige to be one of the truly great stories of North America.

It's a shame only an ever diminishing minority of US citizens have a scintilla of knowledge regarding the story. Oh well, some of them probably rent cars.

Phil Collins is an Alamo fanatic. weird. Lets make him an honorable Texas citizen, um, if he is on our side.

I’m glad Collins is interested in the Alamo. It’s almost a holy experience visiting there. It’s like visiting the site of the Little Big Horn battle. Very historic well known places.

“Collins, who is British, said he has “hundreds” of cannonballs, documents and other artifacts from the Alamo, possibly the largest private collection anywhere, in the basement of his home in Switzerland.”

Well, I’m happy that Collins is interested, but those artifacts need to be in TEXAS!

I found a $5 copy of John Wayne’s “Alamo.” It’s a great movie. I can see why Collins admires the courage of Texans.

Maybe he can take it one step further by studying the history of landscaping.

Collins, who is British, said he has “hundreds” of cannonballs, documents and other artifacts from the Alamo, possibly the largest private collection anywhere, in the basement of his home in Switzerland.

I hope someday he will share these artifacts with the State of Texas, perhaps loan them to the Alamo museum.

The question is what facinates Mr. Collins about the Alamo.

Was it the daring stand for Texas sovereignty or imperialist takeover of Aztlan that is most interesting?

From a ZZ Top interviewl circa 1975:

Billy Gibbons: When I first saw it (the Alamo), a tear came to my eye.

Dusty Hill: Actually, he had just cut his finger on a beer can pop top.

This is wonderful. Sometimes it takes just that one person to take an interest in a cause or preservation of something.

It is great that he has taken on something for the good of history and a cause greater than himself instead of heading into a personal downward spiral as so many musicians and actors do.

In the mid 1950’s the Davy Crockett character was all the rage with kids due to the program on TV with Fess Parker. Every young boy had a coon skin hat and toy fortress with the soldiers and characters, etc. The Alamo history was brought to life when John Wayne made the movie.

I am so glad to learn that Mr. Collins is doing what he can to preserve this big part of American history.

First, the title should read “Has-been Phil Collins has officially gone crazy.”

Second, I will say if you are going to go crazy and become obsessed with something, the Alamo is a good choice.

To summarize. Phil, crazy. Alamo, good.
