Saints preserve us! We in Colorado have a new conversational no-no, another s-word. And it's not an updated colloquialism for poop. If you want to toss a verbal hand grenade, the incendiary word-du-jour is "sin."
In 1973 George Carlin's hilarious 12-minute monologue, "Filthy Words," caused the FCC to puzzle over "indecent but not obscene" speech. This year the Academy Awards crew was relieved that Mickey Rourke lost the Oscar race because of his penchant for dropping the F-bomb in his acceptance remarks.
But "sin" looks to be the latest hot-button projectile.

In polite company, you do not use the word ‘hell’ although it is a place that definitely exists.
Absent the removal of the scales from our eyes, this word represents an affront to each of us. We are now just institutionalizing our natural born rejection of “total depravity”.
Sadly, there is no more “polite society,” though we should train our youngsters as if it did still exist. Also, the proper use of “hell” and “sin” will cause folks to choose up or down, up to the throne room or down into the pit, yes?
I wish I could credit the apropriate freeperette for posting this jewel...
“heck is the place where people who don’t believe in Gosh think they’re not going”
“Vanity was always my favorite Sin”. - Al Pacino, The Devil’s Advocate. It’s all vanity all the time in Washington DC. Since they now are changing the purpose of the District of Columbia to Vanity Fair.
Yep, our elected officials primp and preen with gusto, the latest crop of white-washed tombs. They cringe at the word “sin.” Truth stings.
Good point. I leave it to you to write the next op-ed on “fornication.” Though, me thinks it would bee too long a column to fit in any publication ever printed!
No one should have anymore youngsters. The world they will inherit will be a living nightmare.
:But God...” He’s ever the optimist, and He births, trains up and strengthens His children to go into those nightmares and rescue the lost.
It all depends on whether or not you believe in God. If you believe that there is truly a God up there who will work things out then by all means, bring them forth.
Colorado is blessed to still have a few state legislators with spines!
Senators Renfroe and Schultheis need our prayer support to
withstand the hot backlash against them for having spoken truth
to their peers.
This song says it all...
A Christian counselor wrote, quote,
“It’s the only human choice ahead
If you can’t support it
Why don’t you abort it instead?”
You say you pray to the sky
Why? when you’re afraid to take a stand down here
‘Cause while the holy talk reads like a bad ad-lib
Silence screams you were robbing the crib
Say it ain’t none of my business, huh?
A woman’s got a right to choose
Now a grave-digger
Next you pull the trigger
What then?
Whatever happened to sin?
I heard the Reverend say
“Gay is probably normal in the Good Lord’s sight
What’s to be debated?
Jesus never stated what’s right”
I’m no theology nut, but
The Reverend may be a little confused
For if the Lord don’t care
And he chooses to ignore-ah
Tell it to the people
Of Sodom and Gomorrah (woah)
Call it just an alternate lifestyle, huh?
Morality lies within
Consciences are restin’
Please repeat the question again
Whatever happened to sin?
When the closets are empty
And the clinics are full
When your eyes have been blinded
By society’s wool
When the streets erupt
In your own backyard
You’ll be on your knees
Praying for the national guard
If you don’t care now
How the problems get solved
You can shake your head later
That you never got involved
‘Cause the call came ringing
From the throne of gold
But you never got the message (got the message)
‘Cause your mind’s on hold
A politician next door
Swore he’d set the Washington Arena on fire
Thinks he’ll gladiate them
But they’re gonna make him a liar
Well he’s a good ole boy
Who was born and raised
In the buckle o’ the Bible Belt
But remember when you step
Into your voting booth
He’ll never lie
He’ll just embellish the truth
Promises were made to be broken, right?
You’ve gotta play the game to win
When you need supporting
Tell ‘em that you’re born again
Whatever happened to sin?
Whatever Happened to Sin?
Steve Taylor
Some things never change ...
For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. .... 2 Corinthians 2:15-16
Wonderful! Great song and sentiment. Sin abounds, however, and will until Revelation 22!
Amen to that, Brother!
