Ann Coulter has gone too far...
anncoulter.com 2/25/2009 column ^

Posted on 03/02/2009 9:27:04 PM PST by publius_in_abq

Ann Coulter has always been a valiant fighter in the intellectual battle for conservatism. I even have a couple of her books, but she has gone too far this time. She's irritated me for a while now (didn't buy the last 2 books) and it has finally reached a tipping point:

1. It is one thing to criticize the partisanship and naive policy positions of the Jersey Girls, but it is another thing to start saying disparaging things about their husbands possibly leaving those "harpies".

2. It is one thing to criticize John Edwards for hypocrisy and being an intellectual lightweight, but it is another thing to use a sexual slur against him.

The latest slur against Bobbie Jindal is the final straw, and unfortunately it took her slandering a conservative for me to lose my patience with her. If this was an attempt at making fun of absurdity by being abdsurd (i.e. the liberal slurs against Jindal made by Helen Thomas, Malloy, etc.) then she needs to go on record and explain as such. As I read her column, this was just a slur against him for saying a few nice words about the POTUS. It was not a great speech in terms of delivery or clarity, but was her comment about being in "Slumdog Millionaire" really called for? I've had enough of this from her...she is constantly belligerent with people for no reason (O'Reilly who is not a great conservative, but why she'd want to alienate a center-right person of such power and influence is beyond me). And I'm not sure what she was referring to in her CPAC speech about Afghanistan being a quagmire. She is on the verge of becoming a liability to us now, and undermining her own intellectual brilliance (e.g. the illegitimacy portion of her recent book) with needless bombast. Maybe I'm just over-reacting because I am a Jindal fan...what does everyone else think? I'm frustrated...

You need to calm down...it is detrimental to attack one of our own for such a mild reason as being polite to the POTUS. I had no problem with her criticizing Jindal for being polite to the POTUS (I too think he should have attacked more). And If Jindal was on board with the POTUS’s policies, attack him for that. But what does Slumdog Millionaire have to do with anything? How is that constructive?

Ok, my two cents. Don't care if you like it or not, I have gone way past the point of caring if someone on FR likes me or loves what I say. So here it is: Publius; Ann Rocks, you suck. Period. No need for a debate, no need for me to give a coherent rebuttal. You wouldn't listen anyway. You are obviously a dem plant trying to drive a wedge.

Maybe Ann will lend me the pom poms she keeps shaking for that leftist liar Romney.

You sniveling RINOs are supposed to be up in arms over Limbaugh right now. Get with the program.

I’m not a plant. I like debate, and I want our side to win on substance. That’s why I’ve been a fan of hers. And I am angry that the POTUS has gotten to his position with little to no substance behind him. But this personal attack stuff Ann did does nothing to help us expose the emptiness of the left.

Say after me, Obama is the guy in power and tearing the Country apart.
This is the person to go after and expose.

Forget it bub. Do you realize what's at stake here? Do you really want to engage people who want to destroy you with a cup of tea?

it is detrimental to attack one of our own for such a mild reason as being polite to the POTUS.

She didn't "attack" anyone, that's who Ann is. That's her personality. The last time I looked, Jindal was a grown-up who doesn't need defending.

The Slumdog thing was a joke/attention-getter, not a personal attack.

No RINO here...Rush is dead right...Ann should take some lessons from him on being constructively critical on substance with a nice touch of humor on the side.

I agree about Coulter. She is after Steyn probably my favorite these days. I agree she does like to rattle some people’s cages. Some of her cage rattling, I might have passed on.

I must differ with you about manners and cconservative. Conservative is about maximizing freedom which requires limiting government. You can be mannerly and be liberal, conservative or neutral. Manners are about being nice to others. Sometimes in political discourse you dont want to be nice to others. That does no change your political philosophy. A nice leftist is still a leftist, being mannerly does not make them conservative.

You and I agree! There is a lot at stake...so go after the left, and the wimpy RINOS who are colluding with the Dems. Focus your energy on the real enemy, not JIndal, who is one of our stars.

Ann Coulter’s humor is not for the intellectually weak. She makes a good point. Bobby Jindal’s speech was not up to the task and certainly was not up to the real abilities of Bobby Jindal. It was a bad performance.

Fortunately, Governor Jindal’s speech was on firm conservative ground. However where did that geeky delivery come from? You look at his other speeches and he is articulate and very bright. When I listen to them, he sounds like Microsoft's Bill Gates.

However his speech that night had a style that made his good message sound like syrup—something like a used car salesman trying to pass off a lemon. Most people will start focusing on the delivery if it is bad and pay little attention to the message.

When is the GOP going to wise up and refine the method of delivery? They should have coached Jindal so that his delivery was perfected. If Governor Jindal did not have the right stuff, they should have found someone who did.

The GOP is letting opportunity and carelessness slip through their fingers. And our grandchildren will pay dearly for their bumbling.

No. Not with the faux conservative Romney Republicans spending cash hand over fist to buy out the RNC and all of its satellite organizations, and with erstwhile conservatives like Coulter covering up for them.

They’re the reason conservatives are losing, not Obama.

If it weren’t for the sellout Scottish lords, William Wallace would have crushed the Brits.

The day we get our act together, and stop listening to the compromised, that’s the day the country will start to turn around. Until then, it won’t.

I agree 100%...and have no problem with her criticizing his speech. I just don’t see how Slumdog relates to that...

Governor Jindal’s speech was on firm conservative ground.

Personally, I think incessant praise for Obama is quicksand.

Goodness, can’t we leave the outrage to the ‘rats, I think they’re better at it than we are anyway. So what, Coulter said something you don’t like - deal with it. If you decide that she’s really not your cup-o-tea at all that’s fine as well; but the hypersensitivity in our culture has got to stop.

If Jindal can’t take a little razzing from a friendly columnist than his political future is already dead. His response speech was poor - we all know it - and trying to paper it over won’t be of any help to him or us.
