Thanks folks for answering. I suspect someone here may know better. Ray is one of those who I always respected for the wisdom he expressed here. Not many I will say that about. Some have a lot of knowledge, but there is a difference.
Well, anyway, I’ll be monitoring here to see if anyone else knows about CommonTator. And I do appreciate all the wonderful graphics and poems you all put up here. I am continually amazed by the creativity and expertise.
Thanks, LadyJ. Ohio and Nebraska are two states that were never done at the Finest.
Cornhuskers is the name I always think of for Nebraska.
Lovely!!! I am feeling much better too.
Having awoken too early today I don't much care that it's snowing, just that there's enough coffee.
What a lovely story yorkie! I, too, collect nests. We have Cardinals who build a nest each year in the same small tree. Since they never ‘re-use’ them I save them and have them around on my patio.
I used to throw out small pieces of colored yarn and they would pick them up for their nests!
Cornhuskers is today’s most popular nick.
Love having you come by. Amy’s and the posters here help keep me sane.
My son is a great admirer of CommonTator, too. My son just lurks..but he used to email Free Republic articles to me when I first got a computer.
I just made a fresh pot! Cheers!
On a Lady Throwing Snow-Balls at Her Lover
[From the Latin of Petronious Ascanius.]
When, wanton fair, the snowy orb you throw,
I feel a fire before unknown in snow.
E'en coldest snow I find has pow’r to warm
My breast, when flung by Julia's lovely arm.
T’elude love’s pow’rful arts I strive in vain,
If ice and snow can latent fires contain.
These frolics leave: the force of beauty prove,
With equal passion cool my ardent love.
Christopher Smart
(1722-1271)
Sorry - Christopher Smart didn’t die in 1271. He died in 1771. LOL!
Pandy! Are you out of the hospital? That must have been quite a scare, having to return with complications, so soon after major surgery!
I’ve been praying for you every day, Pandy! Keep improving, my friend. Prayers will continue!
thanks jaycee. It is my friend Patty approaching sunset & she is looking for Toby(the wanderer) - couple years ago at a cemetery area we occasionally hike
Wheelbarrow left about 9:30 this AM.. hope he gets there before major weather event in Ridgewood NJ(his new home). when I called him a few hours ago on the road, he was only just into PA & was snoozing at a rest stop!!!
No, I think we are going to miss it. They say that the cold air we have here right now is preventing the snow from coming too close.
That will give you an idea of how cold it is up here right now. They say Tuesday it will only be in the teens and windy. Arrgh, I am tired of this global warming... : )
Thank you, Potlatch! Every species builds an entirely different nest. It is amazing how intricate each one is, in it’s own way.
The hummingbird nest is not much bigger than a teaspoon and is softer than a cottonball.
A friend was here from Hawaii, and spent hours looking in every little branch and limb, for a hummingbird nest. She never found one. I’ve only found two - and she got one of them to take home with her. (smile)
You are the the only person I know, that also collects nests.
I’ll bet you are! I am such a weinie when it comes to cold weather...and wind just makes it worse.. Well..at least you won’t have to shovel snow.
At Dawn I Submit
I bow before the morn in humble silence sweet
to await the coming of my Lord’s dawn fleet
To glimpse His precious gift of light and life
a promise of uplifting, above the common strife
The soft echo of His touch, as sun upon my cheek
leaves me burden free, as strife is turned so meek
A silent prayer, to mark the moment as praise due
my heart is surrendered, and my soul becomes His too
Good morning one and all!

How sweet that poem and graphic are...and your reasoning
for the nests shows great thoughfulness!
