The future of energy and climate policy is starting to take shape, if comments by Senate majority leader Harry Reid at a clean-energy conference in Washington, D.C. are any guide.
...Thered been plenty of speculation that Congress would bundle together energy-related provisions and a climate bill in the same package. That way, the bitter pill of stricter regulation of greenhouse-gas emissions and higher costs for energy would be offset by a new round of goodies. ...
Sen. Reid said hes decided that renewable-energy and climate change are two separate issues, and we need to make this as easy to do as possible. That means that the 111th Congress will again try to draft stand-alone climate legislation,... But as David Roberts at Grist has noted, Congressional Democrats are far from a unified bloc when it comes to climate policy, with many Blue Dog Democrats leery of anything that smacks of additional burdens on industry.
Sen. Reid also made clear that Washington will call the shots as Congress and the Obama administration seek to overhaul how the country generates and uses electricity. That is especially important for several key issues, from building a new interstate electricity transmission network to changing the way that utilities make money from selling electricity. In both cases, state regulations currently prevail.
Told that state utility regulators are wary of Congress plans to railroad through new interstate transmission lines, Sen. Reid said Whatever we pass at the federal level trumps all that.
That marks Washingtons second shot across the bow of state authorities in as many weeks. The stimulus package included provisions that would condition federal money to states re-writing their utility laws to favor energy efficiency.
Get ready for a backlash from state capitals, many of which have been out in from of Washington D....

I think it would be better to stop outhouse gas emmissions fro Senator Reid.
Well, then, get Yucca Mountain open for business, already.
Home co-generation with a grid connection is looking better everyday.
Guess Harry forgot to read the 10th Amendment the day he skipped in Law School.
Why do we even have states, Harry?
Yup. The GOP needs to jump on states rights. States like Utah, Colorado, Alaska and others need to grab back their energy resources from the Feds. Utah would be one of the wealthiest COUNTRIES in the world based on their clan coal and mineral resources that were stolen by the Feds.
Seems to be a lot of methane emitting from Capitol Hill since 2006. Let’s cap it and burn it.
At some point the Supreme Court needs to step in, but that takes action by somebody. Oh, Dems control both legislative and executive branches... Who shall contest the rights of the dear Maiden Liberty!
Ping!
Reid and 0bama-better check your Constitution, boys.
You seem to trample State responsibilities, again
Ping!
The law of unintended consequences!!!!
No one debates Federal sovereignty in the areas where the Constitution gives Federal Government sovereignty. Where the Federal government usurps the sovereignty of States’ rights, the Federal government is acting illegally, more specifically, unconstitutionally. It is little more than a despotic olligarchy. Over-reaching Federalism leads to Socialism, centralized economic planning and regulation. Redistribution of wealth naturally occurs as those in illicit power deem themselves to know better how to use that wealth than the ones who actually created it. This is where the Pelosi-Reid Administration is going, and Puppet Boy is following.
How much more “quickly” can these DemocRATs shove these decisions down America’s throat? They have decided that the Marx/Lenin/Alinsky version of governance is to move so fast on passing legislation that no citizen has a chance of actually knowing what is in these “laws” much less have a minute to protest their outrageous damage to America. This quicksand of Obama’s takeover continues to pile up with glee and giggles from the leftoids while further astonishing the unfortunate American people. The Republicans have been shut down and castrated, exactly what George Soros and the international left have planned so carefully. Obama’s juggernaut will cause irreversible and lasting damage to our America. Where are the Jeffersons, Washingtons and Franklins of today, we need them, now!
The Congress didn’t get a chance to read what they voted on. Pelosi had to go get an award in Itlay so ditched the 48 hour promised review. Despotism. This is the Pelosi Administration, Obama = Puppet Boy.
Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
“with many Blue Dog Democrats leery of anything that smacks of additional burdens on industry”
They will do what San Fran Nan tells them to do, with a few voting “No” for political cover.
