If I were still on active duty, these would be my answers:

1. No, I would refuse to obey the order.

2. Using the chain of command of the last unit in which I served, no, I believe they would refuse to obey the order as well.

3. Again, using my last unit, I would be confident that 100% would refuse the order.

4. I am confident enough in our military personnel to say that at least 99% would refuse to obey.

Bet on it being at or about 60-40% to 70-30% against such an order.

Have there been questionnaires to members of the armed forces asking if they would take similar military action against fellow citizens?

As a career NCO (retired) in EOD teams all I can say is I took and oath to defend against all enemies both foreign and ..........domestic. I consider the current crop of socialists in power to be just those domestic enemies I swore to defend America from.

The active duty men and women who support such sedition fall into that same catagory for aiding such criminal unconstitutional activity IMO as we have witnessed in the past months.

What worries me is Obama’s Civilian Army.

Using street thugs who have been given a government issued weapon and a government issued license to use it on people...

Yes, I can see THAT “branch” using it.

Went to the VA today with my dad. What is ironic is the number of veterans who are really really weary of Obama. And not just the white ones. This is Atlanta, Decatur no less, so it is probably 80/20 black to white ratio. Many were grumbling at Obama (they had TV’s in all the waiting rooms and they were on CNN and it was “Stimulus this, Eric Holder black people that”. One older black man said “I don’t what makes that man think you can run Chicago style all over America. I just ain’t gonna work”. Another very elderly lady said “I paid my mortgage all them years, didn’t nobody bail me out. And I bet their house is nicer than mine.” I just nodded my head in agreement.

So I wouldn’t assume it is all black support for Obama. Not that it should matter, but it kind of irritated me Eric Holder coming out talking about racial relations. There was every race, religion, age in that VA Medical Center today. Even several turban headed people, and no one was any different than any other day.

As a 36 year, I am perplexed by the desire to keep “racial relations” up. If they’d quit preaching on how “bad” it is, it wouldn’t even be a blip on someone’s radar.

Ok, I’ll step down off my soapbox now. Just wanted to share what my day was like in a huge central location with Veterans from all wars. I thanked about a million of them it seemed.

About 15-20 years ago a questionnaire was given to US military men. One of the questions was would they fire on US civilians if ordered to do so. Most said they would not, a few said they would.

This was written up in GUN WEEK newspaper at the time.

1932, Bonus Army. Several killed hundreds wounded.

1970, Kent State. 4 killed, 9 wounded. National Guard opened fire with rifles.

1993, Waco. 76 killed, including 21 children and 2 pregnant women. US Army vehicles used, SOFD-D (Delta forces) on site.

There have been others. Army soldiers will do as they are told until such a time they can figure out they are on the wrong side, but by then many will have died on both sides.

Oh dear, I’m getting old or I’ve just been hanging out here too long... I remember when we had these very same concerns here back during the Clinton years.

I truly hope that if such desecration of our rights were to happen, that these honorable men and women, who unfortunately have had to use such means too, would uphold the second ammendment to our freedom. Thank you for posting, it gives me hope to know that people out there are ready to fight for freedom.

My conspiracy theory is that Obama knows he is not in full control of the military and LEO in the US which is why they will move as many soldiers as they can to Afghanistan and keep our troops overseas, forget the “Bring our troops home mantra” from the left. Then maybe a Senator will have one of those forgetful moments like in mentioning that “some major insurance company is going to collapse in the coming days” and jeopardize our troops safety overseas. Remember Hitler had to get control of a military which opposed him as well - but he succeeded. Another way of doing it is getting us involved in a new war against a new “identifiable” enemy. That would rally people’s nationalism and keep the military busy enough for the homeland to become the fatherland.

I think Posse Comitatus would supersede any such order to disarm the population. It is suspended or revised in cases of illegal activity but not for removing a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

"4. I am confident enough in our military personnel to say that at least 99% would refuse to obey."

This reminds me of the Denzel/Bruce Willis movie "Under Siege". In it, Denzel portrays the protagonist, a FBI office, against Willis' antagonist, a neo-fascist Army General. But, I think in reality the roles would be reversed. It's the Federal LEO that most scare me. Look at Ruby Ridge, WACO and Elian Gonzales as examples as Jack Boot thuggery perpetrated by Democratic administrations.

As a veteran, I have tremendous confidence that there are enough patriots in the officer and SNCO ranks that they would be the buffer between the "Imperial Federal Government" and America's civilian population.

Officer's and Enlisted swear an oath to defend the Constitution. They don't swear an oath to defend the ruling political class.

unfortunately, the initial orders will be justifiable in the avg officer's mind as targeting 'enemies of the state'...or hardcore dangerous 'nutjobs'...

just think Waco...

phase two will undoubtedly be trickier, and Im confident that a majority of military will 'know' the orders are wrong, but will follow along in self preservation mode...

again, just think Nazis or 'red block' anybodies...or for that matter...blue vs grey in US history...

the real rubber on the asphalt comes when we get to a blanket order [targeting whole inner-city communities like new orleans] and the ability of a handful of 'mutineers' to haul off plenty of goodies as they go AWOL from their units and decide that their conviction to God & Constitution is worthy of killing their own family and friends...

nobody can speak for another human being at that point...only time will really tell...

that is the whole point of the exercises in Comm-gress presently...trying to guage 'resistance' a little bit at a time...

my .02...

History is clear.

Many will do as ordered. Folks, you are deceiving yourself if you think otherwise. The orders will be phrased in a way to seem ok at first. For instance there is a food riot (or something) going on at such and such place. Disarm and detain, use of force is authorized.

Sorry guys, the military is not all knights on shining armor. They are human, and fallible.
