1. No, I would refuse to obey the order.
2. Using the chain of command of the last unit in which I served, no, I believe they would refuse to obey the order as well.
3. Again, using my last unit, I would be confident that 100% would refuse the order.
4. I am confident enough in our military personnel to say that at least 99% would refuse to obey.
As a veteran, I completely and totally agree with your post on this matter.
The only people I’ve ever run across that think otherwise never served as you and I did. Which isn’t surprising when you realize less than 5% of the living population of our nation has ever served in the military.

agree with your post, THANKS
All the more reason to create divisions of foreigners. They wont hesitate to shoot Americans and dump them in mass graves.
I’m glad our military is full of people like you!
If such a situation were to happen, it wouldn’t be in isolation. There would have to be something that the government could reasonably paint as a crisis. Like the “LA Riots” or the “Branch Davidian” standoff, only bigger. Then I could see... maybe... the military following that kind of an order.
Did armed active duty troops respond to Hurricane Katrina and before that, to Koresh compound at Waco as commanded by General Janet Reno?
From my military experience, I’d say about 90% would refuse, 4% are too dumb to understand why it’s unlawful, and 6% are either commies who would love to do it or would be too scared to put on the uniform.
I’ve never served but I have faith in our soldiers to do the right thing and oppose.
Same here. I can honestly say that none of the units with whom I served in the Army would have followed an order to use force to disarm citizens and shuttle them to internment camps. The chain of command would have refused such orders.
I think if we take a snapshot today the answer is no they would not, at least most would not follow those orders.
But, I also see things like openly letting gays in the military, pushing the good ones out and letting more notorious people in and just plan demoralizing the military will have effects in the long term and a couple years from now the answer to this question may be different.
Here is an example, how may stories have you heard about gang members joining the military for training and for getting someone on the inside? I’ve heard enough to make me unconformable.
...oh and BTW...thanks to the heroes who posted that they would choose to preserve and protect the COTUS over an illegal command. You men (and women) rock!
I’m retired military and I do not believe that our military will turn on us. Even the unit commanders would refuse such an order.
It ain’t going to happen!!!!!!
I believe the overwhelming majority would ignore such an order. But then why do you think Hussein is so interested in getting illegals to sign up for military service? A few months and BANG, they’re Americans and soldiers! Think they’d refuse to kick down the door of some gringo if Hussein was paying the tab?
6 year vet. 2 Tours in SEA/RVN. No
2. Do you believe that those in your chain of command would carry out such an order?
Damn few
3. What do you believe is the percentage of personnel in your command that would refuse the order?
It would never get down to the Battalion or Company level, where orders are carried out, therefore any answer is meaningless.
4. What do you believe is the percentage of personnel in the entire U.S. military that would refuse the order?
It would never get down to the Battalion or Company level, where orders are carried out, therefore any answer is meaningless.
5. Is this another one of these wacky “There are 10,000 Red Chinese soldiers in underground forts in Southern Illinois, Zip Codes are really a method of assigning us the first 5 or 9 digits of our serial numbers when we all go to the concentration camps, Black Helicopters, the Mother Ship is waiting” deals that all to often emanate from my friends in Texas?
As a former honorary Texan, I can say “yes!”
Now, ask the same questions of those who would actually be doing the dirty work:
“Law Enforcement”. You know, those unionized, federalized, adrenaline junkies who love to get invited along on no-knock raids.
ATF, SWAT, DEA, you name it. Flash-bang incendiaries, machine guns, armored tanks in every county. They’d be on this in a heartbeat. Jockeying to be a part of the coming gun raids.
THEY are the “standing army” our Founders feared.
