Did armed active duty troops respond to Hurricane Katrina... While active duty troops did respond to Katrina, they weren't sent in to disarm the people. All of the reports that I've seen indicate that the gun confiscation was carried out by the New Orleans PD, possibly with the assistance of parish sheriffs.

No, they were BATF and FBI.
I do not believe that there was any official or unofficial military involvement. I believe the ATF got a tank from the Texas National Guard.
