While active duty troops did respond to Katrina, they weren't sent in to disarm the people. All of the reports that I've seen indicate that the gun confiscation was carried out by the New Orleans PD, possibly with the assistance of parish sheriffs.

Katrina was an example of Kathleen Blanco’s ignorancd and ego not to except federal help offered many times by GWB.
