The F-104 Starigher and all it's variants. Todays Sunday reading obsession.
I wanna hear from the FR pro's!
From what I have read so far, The plane had spectacular abilities coupled with very un-desired effects.

The 1936 Auburn Model 852 Speedster! Discuss!
Thank you.
That was Awesome!! LOL
Are there any left in flying condition?
F-104 STARFIGHTER Aircraft at the Joe Davies Heritage Airpark at Palmdale Plant 42
I don’t think there are any operational combat-ready tails left. The Italians recently retired theirs, and I don’t think the Germans are flying them anymore. The only ones left are probably owned by civs.
The wings had about 3 degree of anhederal iirc
I just read up on Bloodhound ssc it looks like it would beat the NA Eagle.
An Italian StarFighter
USAF F-104
Not a lot of wing area on this bird, the area ruled fuselage also shows up fairly well.
A flight of 4 F-104s from the Dutch Air Force IIRC
NASA two-seater Starfighter rolling in to Edwards AFB for a landing.
A Luftwaffe Starfighter undergoing ZEL tests. A cool concept that actually worked but wasn't used.
50th Anniversary Flight of the F-104. Sorry I don't recall whose plane this is:-(
ANd to close out a pic from the Starfighters demo team.
Y'all have a great night

You’re welcome! Everytime I hear/see the F104 mentioned anywhere, I always think of that episode of that awesome series!
Great story.
I love that stuff.
I was once intercepted by an Italian F-104. I think the Taiwanese were the last to have them in service. They retired their last ones in Aug. 2005.
Uh...yeah. By a country mile.
The NAE is designed (so Mr. Shadle says) to do about 800 MPH. They figured (when the NAE project was first laid on) that this is what it would take to get the LSR and keep it for a while, since nothing else like the NAE was being seriously planned.
Then, Richard Noble strikes again. He was the driving force behind Thrust SSC, the current record holder. He wanted a car that could hit 1000 MPH. And the reason he’s doing it? Not to gain more fame for himself, but to spur the British education system to produce more scientists and engineers for the future of Britain. He’s using this program as a catalyst to get Britain’s youth interested in math, science, and engineering...and totally blowing away the LSR as a side benefit.
(Of course...they’ll have to figure out what to do about the ever-increasing number of Muslims, who’d rather live in the Stone Age...but that’s another thread entirely.)
The Germans actually used them in a ground attack roll.
They became known as “The Widow Maker”....
No. Operational weight was around 25k and the max thrust was ~ 18k w. burner.
Well, from what I hear from people who have actually flown it, it was a great plane if you simply wanted to go from a to b. If, however, you wanted to actually fight other aircraft, it left a lot to be desired. It was ungunned(the original version), it was not very versicle. It was made to be an interceptor, and did not fill the role of a fighter very well!
That looks like a “thud” up there with that other aircraft? right or wrong?
