Miami, FL (AHN) - The more coffee you drink, the less chance you will end up developing mental impairments later in life, a new study suggests.
A team of Danish and Swedish researchers concluded in a recent study that middle-aged coffee drinkers could have a significantly less risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, later on in life.
The team tracked the coffee habits of 1,409 middle-aged men and women for 21 years. During that time, 61 participants developed dementia, 48 of whom developed Alzheimer's.
The researchers controlled for socioeconomic factors and health risks like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and found that people who drank three to five cups of coffee a day were 65 percent less likely to develop dementia than subjects who drank two cups or less per day.
"Given the large amount of coffee consumption globally, the results might have important implications for the prevention of, or delaying the onset of dementia/[Alzheimer's disease]," the researchers said in a statement.
People who drank more than five cups were also at a reduced risk, but there were not enough people in this group to draw significantly solid conclusions, the New York Times reported.
That one is a keeper!
You’ll love those muffins. I have the next two days off (I work weird shifts) and I plan on catching up on my baking.
Those muffins are on the ‘Things To Do” list, for sure. :)
Then what happens?
Ducking.
Being demented as I yam, can I cure me by drinking Starbuck’s?
I have 8 O’Clock beans in the grinder for morning java as I type!
Will procure more beans tomorrow, then will trade them for goods with the locals, LOL!
It IS good coffee. :)
:) Yep. I’m pretty sure it just FEELS longer, LOL!
Switch to 8 O’Clock. Cheaper. Local. And every bit as yummy as Starbucks without the snippy pretension. :)
Mmmm. Thanks for the recipe. Of course, I’ll have to have coffee along with my muffins.

<<LOL—I remember my mom and grandmother buying 8 O’Clock Coffee and grinding it. Guess they knew best. :)
I am getting some next time I am at grocery store when we run out; we usually use a Costco brand.
.
Wuss.
:-)
I loved it when I drank it, but have found it's not something I miss anymore. My life is just fine, I doubt Mocha Muffins will be as good as your chocolate tag line, so I'm going to enjoy breakfast and tea.......
*Waves from accross the lake*
I usually drink 2 mugs full (some days 3 mugs). I consider that a “cup of coffee”. HOWEVER, my coffee pot markings show each mug takes 2 cups of coffee to fill. So am I drinking 4-6 “cups” every morning?
After a few cups I morph into a tall leggy blond with the brains and quick wit of Ann Coulter, LOL!
Bet you can shoot like Ann as well.
I don’t practice as much as she does. I used to be very, very good. :)
:-)
After decades of taking brickbats for bad coffee results, Mr. Coffee now makes a darn good cuppa.

I've been ordering four bags at a time over the internet since I followed the recommendations. I certainly enjoy the full-bodied but not "sharp" or weird coffee flavor.
The long-established company is well-known in the industry, is out of New Orleans, and has many other types of really fresh-ground coffee. The order is delivered within a few days of ordering and the cost is happily modest. Thanks to those who recommended it (if you're still around this forum!)
