EVANSTON, Ill. A 10-year-old boy died after he was found hanging from a hook in a bathroom at his suburban Chicago school, and his mother said Wednesday that school officials haven't given her an explanation for what they described as an accident.
Aquan Lewis, a fifth-grader at Oakton Elementary, was found unresponsive and hanging from a hook in a bathroom at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

School bully prank gone way way too far.
They’ll know by tomorrow who, what, where, why and how.
And then it will go to juvenile court, and we won’t hear another thing about it.
God, this is horrible.
Because some bully put him up there. He was ten. Many of these schools in Cook County are K-8. An 8th grader is big enough to do it.
I suspect some 10 year old bullies hung him up there, I’ve seen plenty of movies depicting just such a scenario (minus the dying).
Sounds like they refuse to consider it was anything other than an accident because that might reflect badly on the school district and result in costly investigations and lawsuits and the like.
At least Aquan didn’t drown...
Lovely. RIP.
Yeah and in zero’s Cook county school’s, some eighth graders can legally drive to school.
I’m guessing it was a bullying prank by some of his schoolmates that went horribly wrong. I’ll bet that there are three or four boys, maybe a year or two older, that are freaking out right now trying to figure out what to do. One will crack, eventually.
That’s my amateur profiling take, anyway, based on my years of watching the “murder channels” on cable (i.e. TruTV, ID, and other channels that have forensics shows.)
There was a similar situation in a school in Philadelphia a while back. (I remember because it was the elementary school my mother attended in the early 1940s.) That was reported as an “accident,” too, and then we never heard anything else.
This is so sad. I bet there were a group of little monsters that thought it would be funny to hang a fellow student from a hook in the bathroom. If that is the case, someone will talk. My heart breaks for this family......
Yes, but did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?
An accident? WTF?
I share your suspicions, when I read the headline I suspected
it was one of those “Turtle on top the fence post” situations.
Boy, this is so similar to an incident just like it a few years back. I’m sure I remember reading about on FR.
Creepy.
You’re probably thinking of the one in Philadelphia, too; it was posted on FR.
There was a very similar story posted here sometime last year about another little boy found dead hanging on a hook, courtesy of some bullies. I can’t find the link just now, but I surely remember it.
There was an eerily similar story in the last couple years in the Austin area.

A 10-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday night, hours after he was found unresponsive in the bathroom of his Evanston elementary school.
The fifth-grader was found about 3 p.m. at Oakton Elementary School, 436 Ridge Ave., where he was reportedly hanging from a hook.
Elliott Lieteau, a school janitor, told reporters that school staff “had pulled him off the hook,” a detail authorities couldn’t confirm. Lieteau added that staff said the boy was on the hook for about 10 minutes and that’s when Lieteau tried to resuscitate the boy.

God, is there a worse pain for a parent.
