EVANSTON, Ill. A 10-year-old boy died after he was found hanging from a hook in a bathroom at his suburban Chicago school, and his mother said Wednesday that school officials haven't given her an explanation for what they described as an accident.
Aquan Lewis, a fifth-grader at Oakton Elementary, was found unresponsive and hanging from a hook in a bathroom at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Given that neither of us have seen the evidence, I am comfortable accepting the coroner's conclusion. As I said, the coroner is the least likely to have a stake in the story.
I knew three kids who were being sexually abused when I was a child. One by a step-father, one by a step-brother, and one by an uncle.
It does happen that elementary school-aged children commit suicide. It is, thankfully, rare, but it does happen.
Accident, ha.
Coroner’s initial finding says it was suicide. Mom disagrees.
It was that or murder.
Happens a lot in prisons.
A couple/3 years ago a HS kid from my brother’s HS was found drowned in lake calumet. I recall hearing if they found who did it.
Classless to post this as a ‘reasons to home school’ ping...
The police aren't accepting it, and they are going forward with an investigation:
From the article:
Evanston police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said the coroner's finding of suicide would not affect how police conduct the investigation. Asked if the finding ruled out any possibility of foul play or an accident, Guenther said, "I don't think we're going to jump to any conclusions at this point."
they would need to arrest me to get me off of the principle’s desk demanding what the HELL happen to my child!
I think it is prudent to examine the case thoroughly. People will have questions, and being able to give as full an account as possible will help people to understand what happened and how. Certainly, no public official would want to hear for years afterward that there was a cover-up or a shoddy investigation.
I'm not convinced that the police think the coroner is wrong simply because they are looking for a complete picture.
Being bullied builds character, or so I've read right here on FR!
Sadly, the parents may not get a full picture. The school has no security cameras, so they will have to rely upon what the classroom teacher says in regards to when the child left the room, other teacher or student reports on whether or not they saw this student and when, student/teacher reports on who else was wandering the halls or might have been in the bathroom at the same time (if they even remember).
And, of course, people will need to be truthful for the thruth to be known. That doesn't always happen either.
I didn't say the police think the coroner is wrong. They're leaving the case open and not jumping to conclusions without a full investigation. As I said in my first post, anything is possible. But suicide doesn't seem likely for a 10 year old. By "suicide" I mean "intent to kill oneself." As I said in my first post, it could've been an accident, for example in a type of "choking game". But, it's rare for a 10yo to purposely commit suicide.
In case you're unfamiliar with "choking game", here is a website with more information: http://www.chokinggame.net/GeneralInfo.html But, I wouldn't rush to that conclusion, either. It's also possible the mother will never know what happened.
Yes - from some of the same people who think women teachers’ screwing the 12-year-olds are doing them a favor. I shudder to think what some of those people must have been through to turn them so creepy.
You didn't? Here is your quote:
The police aren't accepting it (referring to the coroner's decision), and they are going forward with an investigation:
Sorry, I don't see much difference.
Well, there is a difference.
The police are not accepting the coroner's conclusion without further investigation. That's very different from saying the coroner's conclusion is wrong. They won't know if it's wrong or not until they investigate further.
I myself can't understand why anyone would accept this conclusion based only on a coroner's report.
The kids name was Christopher Pineda, he was found in the Cal-Sag Channel not the “lake”.
Seems he was beaten to death not drowned. They never had any suspects.
