People on low-carbohydrate diets are more dependent on the oxidation of fat in the liver for energy than those on a low-calorie diet, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found in a small clinical study.
The findings, published in the journal Hepatology, could have implications for treating obesity and related diseases such as diabetes, insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, said Dr. Jeffrey Browning, assistant professor in the UT Southwestern Advanced Imaging Research Center and of internal medicine at the medical center.
"Instead of looking at drugs to combat obesity and the diseases that stem from it, maybe optimizing diet can not only manage and treat these diseases, but also prevent them," said Dr. Browning, the study's lead author.

I eat NO bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. I have gone from 340 lbs to 250 pounds in that year. My diabetes is in remission or cured depending how you look at it. I no longer require the drug Lopressor for high BP.My sleep apnea is cured,no more damn CPAP machine.
My lifelong addiction to carbs is treated the same way any addiction is treated...you stop doing them!At age 70 this year I feel I'm getting younger every day. I limit my carbs to veggie carbs and am more fit and active than I've been in ten years. Life is good.

Kudos. You've done very well.

thanks for the ping, half of America needs to be on a low-carb diet.
I lost 30+ lbs in 4 months my first time on Atkins(zero exercise). Gained most of it back after jumping off the wagon. Tried it again for 4 months...lost(maybe)5 lbs.
Diabetes (high glucose) does horrible things to all the organs.
He should take Benfotiamine/Allithiamine because diabetics are deficient in B1.
Just realize that it’s ok to not be in ketosis all the time.
Allow yourself an occasional pleasure, but stop eating when you’re no longer enjoying it.
The carb cravings will decrease gradually.
It’s probably not as fast as atkins proper, but you’ll stick with it longer.
