**The 2008-09 BCS National Championship Game Thread**

Posted on 01/08/2009 11:15:31 AM PST by GOP_Raider

We've reached the final game of the college football season. I know that we've had some arguments regarding who really should be the national champion (and due to my own bias I've tried to stay away from it). But anyway, somebody decided #'s 1 and 2 for this game a long time ago and here they are.

The BCS National Championship Game: Florida vs. Oklahoma (8:00 pm, FOX) The last two Heisman trophy winners take to the turf for the waterford crystal shaped football from Sears (or at least it used to be from Sears). Leading up to this game, we've heard about who really should be the top ranked team and I'll say this. One, possibly both of these two teams can end any argument tonight. We know the offensive playmakers by now. Tim Tebow. Sam Bradford. Jermaine Gresham. Lewis Murphy. Juaquin Iglesias. But will the defenses even matter tonight?

Saurkraut on new years is a tradition here in central Pennsylvania. It’s supposed to bring good luck. I’m skeptical about that, but I like the stuff.

In the south, I’ve been told that it’s blackeyed peas, equally gaseous.

I wish it was that way, too.

Like Christmas, it is way too drawn out for me.

My sister is a Southerner and married to a guy from the Pittsburg area. She had black-eyed peas, sauerkraut and hot dogs for New Year's. Black-eyed peas brings you financial success.

When someone is undefeated and everyone else has at least one loss, it would seem easy to determine who is number 1. You can run all the computer models you want, but until they set up a playoff, Utah is number one in my book.

“Black-eyed peas brings you financial success.”

I hope so. I had both saurkraut and black-eyed peas. All I got so far is a lot of gas.

Agree about “the good old days”.

New Year’s Day was a day of recovery, wall to wall college football, and eating leftover hors d’oeuvres. It was great!

Extending out the bowls beyond Jan 1. has caused me to lose interest almost entirely.

How many plays are the idiots at Fox going to come in late on this time around? I stopped counting at 5 during the Fiesta Bowl.

Wasn't that pathetic?

Never seen such stupid direction on a live program.

Go GATORS!!!

Funny, I keep running into Big Ten fans who say UF is toast tonight, but for some reason none of them want to put any $$$ on it.

Great tagline btw.

I just saw three F22’s doing their practice runs for tonight’s flyover. Very nice. I’d never seen them in person before.

USC was on the road and lost to Oregon State in a close 27-21 game. Gators were beat at home, by an unranked team - Ole Miss. I don't think Bradford or Tebow would want to meet the current SC linebacker corps on the playing field. As talented as those two QBs are, they have never been up against a pro caliber defense like the Trojans. They would have a rude awakening...

Sanchez looked like a pro QB in the Rose Bowl - I just hope he doesn’t go pro this year!

Let’s see if I got this straight........

IT’S GOOD TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!!!!

There, I said it. If they are now a 6 point favorite, they should still be able to cover that.

UF 42
OU 31

i know........

I’m thinking the same too. We have to pick a winner in this game, don’t we?

But if Florida were to only win 7-0 in double overtime, then doesn’t Utah get enough votes to claim the AP title???

You really don’t think I’m serious right, I was just presenting an off the wall scenario that really makes the BCS the mess we know it is!!

So, I’m guessing Oregon State has a pro caliber offense that kept the USC defense in place. I seriously doubt that defense met an OU offense. As I recall, that same USC defense was beat by Stanford last year—another underrated high powered PAC10 team with a 5-7 record.
