We've reached the final game of the college football season. I know that we've had some arguments regarding who really should be the national champion (and due to my own bias I've tried to stay away from it). But anyway, somebody decided #'s 1 and 2 for this game a long time ago and here they are.

The BCS National Championship Game: Florida vs. Oklahoma (8:00 pm, FOX) The last two Heisman trophy winners take to the turf for the waterford crystal shaped football from Sears (or at least it used to be from Sears). Leading up to this game, we've heard about who really should be the top ranked team and I'll say this. One, possibly both of these two teams can end any argument tonight. We know the offensive playmakers by now. Tim Tebow. Sam Bradford. Jermaine Gresham. Lewis Murphy. Juaquin Iglesias. But will the defenses even matter tonight?
Yup! A Week Late!
Big XII South, maybe. But the North wasn’t nearly as strong, outside of Mizzou.
Oregon? Really? How is that crack working for you?
Mike Riley, Oregon State coach, is one of the best coaches in the country.””
Sorry for the mistake. Riley’s coaching must be why The Beavers are so highly ranked. Sorry!! Are they ranked?
That sounds politically correct. Utah play’s a light schedule that is their fault. They have to expect to be ranked lower. It is not unlike the Heisman trophy where the success of the team also plays into the equation. There are numerous factors in play not just one game.
What has amazed me about USC in the past few seasons is that they get better after they lose a game that they shouldn’t (an example of that for ‘08 would obviously be Oregon State). This season at least, the Pac 10 didn’t lose a bowl game.
As for the Big 10, I would say that recruiting is going to have to change, certainly for the “big” schools in the conference, like Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State. I’ve heard a lot of people say that “there’s no speed” in that conference and while that’s kind of a gross generalization, that kind of “problem” starts with recruiting.
As the resident Ute loyalist on the college football thread, it still seems very surreal to have the Utes even in a conversation for a national championship.
We’ll see. Big 12 won the bulk of their bowl games. Don’t even count the Cheat’n Ducks.
Sure must have been a long New Years Day, as the Sugar and Cotton Bowls where not until January 2........
Utah beat USC the last time they played, right? Christmas 2001 in the Las Vegas Bowl?
Until USC beats Utah again, they can’t claim to be the best. :)
Go Gators!
Correct, the '01 Vegas Bowl. Excellent memory. That was also Pete Carroll's first season at USC.

Two bits...four bits...six bits...a dollar
All for the Gators....stand up and holler!
It seems that dirtburglar mangina bruise will never heal.
Beavers, Ducks, what the heck is the difference? And to think I once lived in eastern Oregon. Do you know Grant County?
I only watched a part of one bowl game this year, in protest to the bowl games extending way beyond new years day.
I was talking about the good old days.
Florida also beat Alabama...in the SEC championship game. If Florida wins tonight they deserve Number One. That is the way it is set up. I think the Utes did great against Alabama and I was pulling for them, but the winner of the game tonight deserves to be Number One.
