The New Year week is here. Wishing you all the best.
A quick Monday morning start for the week.
Re: our coach
We don’t know the truth about what happened and we may never know the truth. I’m not sure we really need to know. BUT, when our team began losing I began hearing rumbling from people my age, and those are the ones with money, that Tubby may have gone past his peak. Then, he fired the offensive coach. We thought we’d have a chance. But the loses kept piling up. Our team looked as if they didn’t really know the fundamentals and they definitely weren’t working together.
Now, the students loved Tubby. My girls are very upset. They felt that we should overlook a losing and/or a rebuilding season. BUT, for the last 10 - 15 years or so, many things have gone to a pay basis. For example, I can’t listen to the game over streaming audio for free. I must pay for that. That is fair enough. The cost of tickets have gone way up. And, in order to be eligible to buy tickets you have to “donate” certain amounts just to get the priviledge to get on a list to buy (i.e. Bama tickets). All this is good business.
But, if you’re going to be more of a business than a school loyalty, well, you can’t blame people for wanting to get the best value for their money.
I’m waiting for more of this story to come out. Tubby is staying with the university. BUT, his contract stated that if HE LEFT, he would pay AUBURN $6 million. If AUBURN FIRED HIM, we would pay him $6 million. Bottom line: we’re paying him.
In an unrelated note, it has been announced tonight that our swim coach (think Olympians) has an inoperable brain tumor.
My youngest has gotten on to me for bragging about her academic record so I won’t give y’all any details. BUT, she has the first non-prime number as her gpa.
Yep and thanks ... just back from a six day trip on AMTRAK ... great fun and a great trip ... AMTRAK only way to go if you have the time ...more later ...jane
Yes, right now, our three boys are very busy with their coursework at college & sports. I am sure that will all change before long!
We ended up taking one of your Defensive Asst. coaches. He is from Iowa, so we will wait and see what next year brings.
Back in the 70s y’all had a powerful wrestling team. Is that still strong?
We had a great wrestling team coached by “Swede” Umbach. Then along came Title IX funding and the powers that be decided wrestling wasn’t paying its way (although it was in National Contention regularly) and so it was axed in favor of Girl’s Tiddly Winks or something like that.
That's what we've been saying, too.
Jane, be sure to post some pictures if you took any.
We were thirteen hours late leaving Seattle ... the train was supposed to leave at 5pm but didn’t leave until three AM the next morning ... the staff had the bed made up in the roomette and I crashed ... no pictures of that event ... slept until 9am and missed b’fast ... made up for it later in the day with a burger and a steak dinner ... food was GREAT!!!!!
Thank you for being so gracious.:)
I know what that is like ... sort of. I know what it is like to be so tired that when you finally make it to your seat, you crash.
When we got to our seats (the youngest and I) going from Taipei to LAX, I was so tired that I fell asleep before the cabin doors were closed and didn’t wake up until sometime over Alaska. I do not remember take-off at all.
Good night, dear ones. I really think I may sleep well tonight.
I’m hoping I’ll be feeling great tomorrow and able to dance until next year.
In the 70’s, I believe that is when Dan Gable coached Univ. of Iowa wrestling team. He was phenomenal to watch during the matches!!
They are the current defending NCAA champion, and ranked 1st nationally.
It is still a powerhouse, coached by Tom Brands. My husband is the wrestling fanatic.
God bless all of our brave troops, and God bless America.
Good night everyone.

Good morning.
Brrrrr............
Good Morning. That wind that brought these cold temps was horrid. I never hear anything in this house, except snow plows and honking horns. But I could hear the wind, most of the night.
I’m so glad it’s moved on. And I’m willing to put oup with the cold temps in order to be rid of that wind.
It's going to be a long watch. 11 hours long. I forgot to bring something to eat.

Oh MY!
Is there no vending machine there? Can you order out?
I need to fix me up an Air Force Diddy bag. Carried back up items, in case of closed chow halls.
