Re: our coach
We don’t know the truth about what happened and we may never know the truth. I’m not sure we really need to know. BUT, when our team began losing I began hearing rumbling from people my age, and those are the ones with money, that Tubby may have gone past his peak. Then, he fired the offensive coach. We thought we’d have a chance. But the loses kept piling up. Our team looked as if they didn’t really know the fundamentals and they definitely weren’t working together.
Now, the students loved Tubby. My girls are very upset. They felt that we should overlook a losing and/or a rebuilding season. BUT, for the last 10 - 15 years or so, many things have gone to a pay basis. For example, I can’t listen to the game over streaming audio for free. I must pay for that. That is fair enough. The cost of tickets have gone way up. And, in order to be eligible to buy tickets you have to “donate” certain amounts just to get the priviledge to get on a list to buy (i.e. Bama tickets). All this is good business.
But, if you’re going to be more of a business than a school loyalty, well, you can’t blame people for wanting to get the best value for their money.
I’m waiting for more of this story to come out. Tubby is staying with the university. BUT, his contract stated that if HE LEFT, he would pay AUBURN $6 million. If AUBURN FIRED HIM, we would pay him $6 million. Bottom line: we’re paying him.
In an unrelated note, it has been announced tonight that our swim coach (think Olympians) has an inoperable brain tumor.
My youngest has gotten on to me for bragging about her academic record so I won’t give y’all any details. BUT, she has the first non-prime number as her gpa.
Jemian,
Re: Post #221
It is amazing with all the hirings and firings...we may never know the true story.
I heard that our coach had to pay to get released, not sure how much, but whatever the remainder of his contract was, I believe.
Alabama football has a wonderful tradition, I am just not sure if this coach has been tested enough to survive in that pressure-packed job. It will be fun next year to see how the teams compete.
Such sad news about the swim coach with the brain tumor, I will put them on my prayer list.
