NYC marks forgotten holiday from Revolutionary War[Evacuation Day]

People in 18th century dress greeted visitors Tuesday at Federal Hall, commemorating the end of the Revolutionary War.

The costumed reenactors were busy answering questions about the 225th anniversary of Evacuation Day, the day in 1783 when the last British redcoats boarded ships in New York Harbor and sailed away, and Gen.George Washington and his victorious troops marched down Broadway.

It would be really cool for some of these forgotten observances made a comeback. But that will leave too few days left to celebrate The Obama.

Boston also celebrates an Evacuation Day. That’s when all the gov’t offices disgorge themselves of taxpayer funded employees. By good fortune, it corresponds exactly to St. Paddy’s Day.

Hadn't occured to me.

Then again, I doubt that most Americans realize that the Revolution lasted until 1783.
Hell, a lot of them probably think it ended (or at least started) in 1776!
