“Let’s boost the economy.

LET’S GO SHOPPING!!”

Cindy,

Shopping will boost the economy only if the products are American-made. If they are made in China, shopping will merely enrich a hostile country at the expense of American workers.

I plan to sit out Black Friday, and pay my usual post-Christmas visit to the mall, when the retailers will have to knock 50% or more off the Chinese-made trash they imported to clear shelf space for the next batch of Chinese-made trash.

On the other hand, if it’s made in America by American workers, I agree: buy it.

“Local retailers upbeat about Black Friday”

By MARCUS RAUHUT Staff writer ——————————

SNIPPET: “Local retailers are hoping that an economic downturn and road construction in some areas won’t slow down Black Friday shopping traffic.

For shoppers, a weaker economy may translate into retailers offering more aggressive deals and price cuts.”

we’ll be making hard candy (Karo syrup, sugar and water plus flavoring) and other goodies for Christmas gifts too! The kids’ teachers and friends each get to pick a pie they like and I will make them one

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The rustling of shopping bags, carts filled with gifts, and shoppers scurrying through the aisles describes the scene for many parents trying to catch big holiday sales the day after Thanksgiving.

Girl Scout Troop 1138 wanted to make that day extra convenient for some local parents by hosting a daylong “Snowy Days” holiday-themed party for younger Girl Scouts on “Black Friday.”

While the parents were shopping, their children enjoyed a day of holiday fun that included games, crafts, songs, movies, cookie decorating and more.”

That sounds like a good plan.

We always pay cash and if we do use our credit card; we pay it off each month.

One year I gave in to my daughter’s and granddaughters’ pleadings and went to the mall on Black Friday. NEVER AGAIN!.

I’m having about 28 here for Thanksgiving dinner (many of them will be spending a couple of nights with us), and after a four-day cooking marathon, all I will want to do is put up my feet and read my new Vince Flynn novel, while THEY go to the mall.

My whole family is really into hunting, fishing and camping. I’ll go to Cabela’s mid-week and do most of my shopping there.

I wish you and yours a most blessed Thanksgiving.

I was going to buy an HDTV last week for my father, but then they raised the price overnight by $200. I have this sneaking suspicion that the price is going to come down again on Friday by $200 just so they can advertise it as $200 off.

Rock and Roll Records PING!

Vinyl is back and so is rock and roll.

Here are some online sales this week:

http://www.sundazed.com/

Sundazed Records releases excellent remastered vinyl and CD recordings of older acts (mostly 1950s and 1960s).

They have a 10% off sale right now (online address above) through November 30th.

While the discount may not be deep, there are some interesting releases (from rare Byrds' releases (including unreleased concerts, unreleased singles, alternate takes) to a 4-CD boxed set on the Trashmen to some limited releases (like this 1,000 edition vinyl of Link Wray's unreleased first album).

Vinyl may seem expensive to those who haven't bought records in quite awhile but it is higher quality than you've probably seen in the past (weight on these releases is typically 180-220grams) and petroleum prices have been up as well.

And while some companies' reissues don't sound so good, Sundazed strives to sound even better (with superior vinyl) and in the case of the 13th Elevators' Pyschedelic Sounds of (mono version) they've located some rare source tapes.

Yep Roc

Yep Roc deals with more contemporary releases of older and newer artists. Their current online sale appears to be focused on some $10 Christmas CDs.

ALSO note:

The Yep Roc Web Shop features Digital Now! Buy a CD or LP and get the digital album free!

Buy a current release from the Yep Roc Web Shop and the digital album appears in your Stash for instant download! You can listen to the MP3s while your CD or LP is on its way. And if you pre-order a CD or LP before release date, the digital album will appear in your Stash on release date!

And as always, digital music from the Yep Roc Web Shop is delivered to your Stash in MP3 format, with no pesky digital rights management (DRM) copyright protection. That means it will play on almost every computer and digital music player, including iPods!

Norton Records

No special sale but everything for sale is special (how 'bout that?).

Some rundown of the new "old" sound NORTON NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER including newly released albums of recordings by Johnny Burnette and Charlie Feathers plus their own ongoing series of new Christmas singles.

There is also a virtual "boxed set" of singles they've released now available through itunes (with a downloadable booklet if your order the whole thing).

I STILL HATE CDs Coming this fall, 45 more singles from the vaults of Norton Records. This release, like the first set, is download only and is available from all download outlets – no Goodwill or yard sale action this time, sorry. But it is cheap and easy to grab these babies. By the way, there were some comments that folks wished we provided cover art and notes. If you pick up volume one from iTunes, it comes with a detailed booklet!

Robert Plant digs the records at Norton and you should too.

Hopefully this helps some people with their gift buying (or making their own lists). All records from these companies are new (no used records/CDs).

RE: “I am doing a “John Galt” for the next 4 years. Get out of debt with my income. Create minimal wealth to tax and distribute to others. We are going to live lean. And guess what- Obummer thinks we are rich people who don’t need any stimulus.”

Same here — very little spending though whatever I do buy will be before W’s admin. ends, and before Arnold and others can increase our state taxes in CA through the roof. Then as of January, save like a fiend. John Galt ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.

All I really want for Christmas is the 6 years worth of my current yearly take home pay that disappeared from my retirement account.

I’ve been really really good.

I went nuts this summer buying vinyl at garage sales. I always bought entire lots and ended up with hundreds of albums for pennies per LP. I got a lot of lawrence welk, but I got a lot more good stuff. This includes my very favorite Christmas album by the Ventures!

And six or seven of the LP’s had never been opened...

Gawd, 4 years more of “it’s Bush’s fault! AGH!!!

I'd put it at more like 12 years of "Bush's fault". It'll take at least that long to undo all the damage from Bush preventing any further attacks on our country after the 9-11 attacks planned under Clinton's watch. It'll take at least that long for the socialists to weaken our country to a level where even France can look down at us, and where Michelle Obama can say, "not only am I proud of the United Socialist States of America for the first time, but the Europeans like us, they really like us."
