The incident has become an internet sensation after the wife, named Susan, made a posting on Apple's discussion forum asking for technical support.
She was trying to find out whether her husband had a genuine excuse, even though she had already caught him making late night phone calls and sending messages to other women.
She wrote: "Please help! I took my husband's iPhone and found a raunchy picture of him attached to an e-mail to a woman in his sent e-mail file.
"When I approached him about this (I think that he is cheating on me) he admitted that he took the picture but says that he never sent it to anyone.
"He claims that he went to the Genius Bar at the local Apple store and they told him that it is an iPhone glitch: that photos sometimes automatically attach themselves to an e-mail address and appear in the sent folder, even though no e-mail was ever sent."
Susan asked the Apple experts on the discussion board to tell her if they had ever heard of the bug, saying "the future of my marriage depends on this answer".
Her account on the Apple site says she is from New Jersey.
Most people on the forum told her the excuse was laughable, but interestingly, two newly-registered users posted responses saying they had experienced a similar glitch.
However, regulars on the forum soon queried whether the posts came from Susan's husband.
Susan even described the picture in question on the forum.
"It was a close-up shot of him pleasuring himself taken at the exact moment of maximum pleasure," she wrote.
"It's such a good shot that one must wonder if he actually practiced it a few times before getting it right."
Susan thanked the discussion board and said her lawyer was "working on the divorce complaint".
Apple - Support - Discussions - Pictures automatically attach to e-mail ...
“It’s such a good shot that one must wonder if he actually practiced it a few times before getting it right.”
Yep, I think all of us have gotten into a bit of trouble, at one time or another, from listening to the smaller head.
Oh lawdy...well, I suppose if I'm going to be banned from FR, this is a suitably dramatic way of making it happen.
Y'all can say "see, this is what we get for allowing scruffy, furry creatures into Free Republic...they cause nothing but trouble".
"sigh"

You guys think that THIS might get you banned?
After this last silly season?
LOL!
It’s welcome relief. ;o)

Caught red- errr... handed
If this "glitch" catches on, we could ALL be receiving some very interesting e-mails.
(I'm joking, of course. The best liar in the world probably couldn't come up with {oooops, sorry} a plausible excuse for what this clown got caught doing.)
I really hate to think of what the Starr Report might have been like if Monica Lewinsky had had an iPhone available....
The “blue dress” would have been quickly forgotten......
She’s certainly not the smartest gal out there, but she was probably desperately trying to hang on to one shred of hope. I don’t get the guy; does he really think women are turned on by images of men pleasuring themselves? A rare few are, I’m sure, but for the most part, women don’t work like that (unlike men viewing similar images of women).
She may be dumb, but more likely she is not.
Think of all the people who believed Obama. Plenty of them are stupid and uneducable, but many are very well educated. They didn’t get sucked into the Obama camp overnight. They got there a little at a time.
This woman did, too. A major difference is that this is her husband, not a political candidate. This is the person that she trusts more than anyone else in the world. She took a vow for better or for worse. She can’t just change her vote. She would like to believe him.
Ask yourself this - If you found some mildly suspicious evidence about your spouse, would you immediately run out and file for divorce? Or would you give your spouse the benefit of the doubt and allow him/her to explain?
I think she is behaving in a very intelligent way in a very difficult and bewildering situation. She is actively trying to find out whether this is possible. She is asking all the right questions.
A search of his car uncovered pornography, a home-made sex aid, women's stockings and a Jack Russell terrier.
All that and a jar of pasta sauce too. I do hope the dog wasn't involved.
Yeah, I was thinking that the "other woman" in this case must be a real winner. A keeper.
I'd also be willing to bet that she showed the picture to ALL of the other women in the trailer park.
Ain’t technology grand. In another 5 years, this idiot will be able to email a hologram of his privates. 3D walk around. Full color.
;)
