Vanity: I bought my Glock 19 today, and I simply wanted to say thank you!

I know I posted a thread a few days ago about a handgun (below), and my interest in a Glock 19, and I sought your thoughts and comments.

Knowing I tried it before I bought it!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2103527/posts

Well I did my research and I went and bought the G19! That's a freakin' awesome handgun!

I took my Dad and he fired it too! And he was amazed by it (He owns a 1911 and I know that's no comparison, I know that).

I just wanted to say thanks for all of your comments! I tried a Sig and some others, but I'm sticking with what I bought! That's a freakin' awesome handgun!

So thank you all! Now I need to get me a great rifle!

Does anyone have any thoughts on Armalite (AR-10)or S&W M&P?

“Then it’s MOA at all ranges. Just sayin’.”

Don’t disagree, but accuracy at different ranges is also somewhat ammo dependent. A MOA load at 100 may disperse to more than that as the range increases, and indeed, a long range load may achieve MOA @ longer ranges but print larger groups at shorter ranges. Used to shoot high-power when my eyes and back were better, used different loads at 200, 300, and 600 for this reason. Lighter projectiles printed better at the shorter distances while heavier projectiles were MUCH better at 600.

Sounds like wind interference. Slower and heavier would have the advantage. There’s MOA in a perfect world, and then there’s MOA in the real world. Minute of buffalo, if you will.

Great! Now join a local IDPA club. I used to be active with an informal group years ago, and the experience, practice, knowledge [actual, common sense knowledge], firearm maturity, and training I learned is something I will never forget.

The great thing about IDPA is that you do not need much more than a your handgun, holster, magazines, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a Hawaiian shirt!! [Hawaiian shirts are my favorite type of cover. I have about 15. Some are very nice and appropriate for evenings.]

Welcome. Happy Glock 40 cal owner here. Today, my wife and I went to the weapons range. I fired about 60 rounds through my AR15. My wife and I fired over 200 rounds each through our pistols. He uses a Baretta Tomcat .32 cal, and I shot my Glock and my Ruger 9mm. Took forever to police up the brass. Then cleaning them all. Man, that was a fun day.

You stand corrected. The 19 will hold a 15 rounder.

eaglegso posted the thread about his new 19. I was telling I was telling DaveLoneRanger about my S&W 45ACP.

Hey, Thanks...

Because of your response, I decided to look at Rock River Arms.

After doing alot of research, and talking to dealers, that’s the one I am going to go with!

I put my deposit in to them yesterday! The “Pro Series Government”....

Pricey, but I don’t care, and from what I have hear, that is one of the best rifles out there made!

Thank you!

Hey, I'm just glad I could help... Now that you have made your own decision, I'm going to tell you something. I sold about 40 RRA's this past summer, working behind the tables at gunshows for a dealer. In my opinion, they do make the finest ARs out there. I will not build an AR on anything other than a Rock River lower receiver.

When the DEA put out the request for bids on their carbines, Bushmaster had submitted a bid. When Bushmaster found out that Rock River Arms had submitted a bid, they (Bushmaster) withdrew their bid from competition - I guess they figured it was better to withdraw from the competition than to have word get out that the Rock River Arms weapon was the winner of a contract for which Bushmaster had bid.

I just plain like Rock River Arms' quality... Besides, there is something cool about having 5 variations of the AR-15 with all of the five having consecutive serial numbers! (I managed this because I build all of my own AR's.) A lightweight carbine, an M-4 with the 16" (non-AOW) barrel, a standard 20" barreled rifle, a 20" HBAR rifle, and a 24 stainless varmint barreled rifle.

Be glad you went with the RRA... Thier 7.62 AR is the rifle Eugene Stoner would have build if he had been able to have nearly 50 years worth of hindsight. It is just about, IMO, the perfect 7.62mm semi... Accuracy, parts availability, value for the dollar. OUTSTANDING!

Regards,
Raven6

Hey, I’m responding to you, because you responded back to me regarding RRA.

I placed my down payment a while back, and they called me Monday to tell me that RRA is actually seeing a 12-14 MONTH backlog, so I decided to cancel that and try and find another!

In your honest opinion, what is your opinion on Bushmaster, and the ORC model?

Like I said previously!

I placed my down payment a while back, and they called me Monday to tell me that RRA is actually seeing a 12-14 MONTH backlog, so I decided to cancel that and try and find another!

So I need to find another quality rifle!

Do you have another opinion on the subject?

Can I buy a RRA arm from you, or a comparable model?

Hit me back via private email/message if you can.

I don’t know about Bushmaster (I’m thinking that), but I’m not too sure!

The only thing I can tell you about other manufacturers is that I examined their products and in the end selected the RRA.

What I would respectfully suggest is that if you're not willing to wait, something I would not recommend at this point, is to purchase what is available be it a Bushmaster, Colt, Armalite, or whatever.

That way you'll have the basic platform and you can embellish it later at your leisure.

Were I in your situation I would prioritize manufacturers in the following way:

Armalite
Colt
Bushmaster

You can always purchase match barrels, two stage match triggers, aftermarket whatzits, and put them on the basic platform.

Please realize that this is strictly my opinion and that your mileage will very likely vary.

Best,

L
