I know I posted a thread a few days ago about a handgun (below), and my interest in a Glock 19, and I sought your thoughts and comments.
Knowing I tried it before I bought it!

Well I did my research and I went and bought the G19! That's a freakin' awesome handgun!
I took my Dad and he fired it too! And he was amazed by it (He owns a 1911 and I know that's no comparison, I know that).
I just wanted to say thanks for all of your comments! I tried a Sig and some others, but I'm sticking with what I bought! That's a freakin' awesome handgun!
So thank you all! Now I need to get me a great rifle!
Does anyone have any thoughts on Armalite (AR-10)or S&W M&P?
Actually he has been home for awhile after serving for a year in Iraq, and now he is down at Ft. Bragg training troops (he just got promoted to Colonel too!). But he shouldn’t be there long before coming home......I think he wanted me to get the Glock but I was looking to save some $$ as we have a trip coming up soon and the Glock does not have a Safety for my fiancee.
Middle word in life is....”IF”.
BHO will lose !
PX/BX sales were always just regional when I was in. Gun buys were good at bases in OS but never saw a deal in a CONUS base.
Stay Safe !
Here's what you do.... Crank up an Ampeg SVT to "10,", hit a power-chord with a 6 string bass, then drop one of the 8x10 cabinets on their head while they're sprawled out on the floor.

I have a S&W MP-15 and like it alot. That said, there are many competitive AR-15 makers, so look around.
I've been using that as an excuse to buy guns all year, after 5 new guns my wife has started rolling her eyes!
LOL!
You sound like my brother!
Welcome to Citizenship, brother Eagle...
Glocks work, period. Hard to bust ‘em. My main carry is a Glcok G19; also have a full-size G21 (.45ACP).
You won’t be sorry with it. As much as I like my own 1911A1, the G19 is THE perfect hip-schlepper and personal companion.
Another piece you may want to check out is the Springfield XD-9 (got one of these too). It fits the hand a little nicer than the Glock, due to the contour of the backstrap, and fires very smoothly with a crisp trigger pull. The wife likes it, and is very, very good with it (and WHAT could be better than a “Gun Girl” at the range??? Why, SEVERAL Gun Girls at the Range, of course!!!)
At any rate, good luck with it, be safe, and enjoy yourself.
As for a carbine or rifle - depends on what you want to do with it. In a carbine, I’d say stick with something like the SW M&P (but any AR15 platform will work for you, and there are many to choose from. Personally, I like Bushmaster). If you like/don’t mind Commbloc weapons (personally, I love them) you could go with an AK/MAK or SKS.
If you want longer range, go with a rifle such as an AR10 HK91, or an M1A (of the three, the HK91 is probably the handiest since its shorter and lighter and both of the others). Also depends on what you want to spend.
IMHO...there’s others out here to give better advice, based on their own personal. Listen to all, then make a decision on what’s best for your needs.

Why would anyone be surprised that a communist-tutored, communist-inspired, communist-believing, Asscrackistan Candidate (he ain’t from Manchuria) would have a book entitled “Post American World”...?
The subtle nuances escape me...like John F***ing Kerry said about me...I suffer from “TFS” Syndrome - “Too F***ing STOOOOOOOOOOOOOPID” to get it syndrome...
Great! Now buy lots of ammo for it while you still can. I’m talking cases here.
I have a DPMS SASS .308 that is an awesome long range rifle - .5 MOA with good ammo, 1 MOA with reloaded pulled mil spec (good but not great bullets). Has all the trick parts already on it. Unpack, clean, load, and shoot. A bit heavy due to the heavy barrel profile, but an awesome rifle.
I also have a M&P AR-15 rifle, not sure of the model number but it also has all the trick parts, works well, and is a MOA rifle out to 200 yards (longest range around here). Never a problem with function or quality.
I looked at both the .223 and .304 AR platforms pretty extensively before purchase and both of these had the features and quality I was looking for. Look around, pricing varies by 2-300 between vendors.
Have fun, Buy Both For Maximum Enjoyment!
BLOAT indeed!
I loaded 1000 last week for my .223, have to get more components.
Cheaper than Dirt has good prices, Wally World typically does also.
That's a good choice too. I've put over 1500 rounds though mine and it's been flawless. An auto with a double-stack or diagonal-stack magazine doesn't feel comfortable in my hands, so here's what I settled on:
This past weekend the PX had a heck of a deal going here. They had two drawings on Friday and two on Saturday, one at 1430 and one at 1530. No purchase needed - drawing for? A handgun. I don’t know what make/model, but the price was right. They also offered two free days at the sportsman range here on post and a discount on the CCW course offered there.
Next you need a bolt-action (Steyr Scout .308 at one end of the price range at ~$2000, or Mosin/Nagant M44 7.62x54R at the other at ~$100), and an AR15.
But before your next buy, get “The Art of the Rifle” by Jeff Cooper.
Cool !
Better BX/PX than my day for sure !
We had our own ranges for our teams that we used for personal use as well. Our bases usually had a trap & skeet range and opened the small arms range a few times a month for personal use.
We also had a walk & stalk bow range that was fun ! Run by a base archey club.
Glad your close enough to a good base like that !
Nearest base to me in Cannon AFB in NM on TX/NM border !
Stay safe SLB !
My gun shop undercuts Cheaper Than Dirt on some ammo. For buying bulk, ya can't beat a gun show in this area.
Then it's MOA at all ranges. Just sayin'.
