Is it any good? I saw the original (no, not then, now) ... very preachy IMHO ...

Isn’t this one about global warming? The original is a classic. I don’t care about a remake.

That would be so cool if they followed the original short story instead of the first film. The film veered off from the movie early on.

In the short story, when Klaatu is shot . . .
spoiler . . . He dies. . . . No, really, I'm not making that up. spoiler

Now if Keanu did that, it might be worth watching.

I thought the original was pretty good but had an obvious tho indirect communist/nazi message. In other words if you Earthlings don't behave, we will kill you all for the good of society.

Intergalactic society that is.

Any movie with Jennifer Connelly is a good movie, IMO.

I saw the original half a dozen times. I thought it was superb. I’ll pass on this one.

Just last night I watched an interview with Patricia Neal on AMC. I had seen the interview once before but it was so fascinating I had to watch it again.

Neal said that when she was cast in The Day the Earth Stood Still, she thought it was just the funniest thing. She said she had a hard time keeping a straight face thinking the whole thing was silly. She also said that it wasn’t until watching it many years later that she came to appreciate that it was a pretty good movie.

I love 50’s sci fi movies (everything from DTESS to Monolith Monsters and beyond!), and the original Day the Earth Stood Still always has been my favorite movie. Until this thread I didn’t know who would play Klaatu. Reeves would be the best choice I could think of. But I still doubt I will see this new version. To me, remaking this film borders on sacrilege.
