Apple has begun airing three new "Get a Mac" ads on U.S. network and cable television.
In "Pizza Box," PC stoops to disguising himself as a pizza to get college students to even look his way.

In "Throne," PC sits atop his throne, but Mac puts a damper on his fun.

In "Calming Teas," Windows PC offers user "calming teas" to deal with the mess that is Windows Vista.

I think Apple is trying to communicate ‘you can still do what you now do’, not just the ‘same as’. Price issue is big. It is hard for me to spend more for a mac. But I now do it, knowing what I get.
So... you can do what you do now, it will just cost you more?
Where do I sign up?!
Sorry. Completely unnecessary.
(Just way too easy...)
“I dont know why MP3 makers have not gone to SD slot based machines.”
Have you looked at the Sandisk Sansa “Fuze”?
It works with Macs as well as PC’s...

._._. (market share doesn’t equal excellence)
there, dots (kinda) connected for ya. I will try to be less subtle next time.
I’m sorry, this is crazy...We both know that market share doesn’t equal excellence...
“If Apple now runs Microsoft Office, why would I want to run microsoft office on a non microsoft machine? Some people here are just overthinking the answer to that one.
It would seem the best system to the unwashed masses is to run microsoft on microsoft.”
If I recall correctly, Microsoft Excel made its _debut_ on the Macintosh platform many years ago. Only after it was successful on the Mac, did it get “ported” to Windows!
I believe even Microsoft Word was introduced first “on the Mac side”.
Your argument holds no water. The “core applications” of MS Office were indeed Mac applications FIRST, because when they were introduced, Windows didn’t yet exist. You couldn’t even RUN “Microsoft on Microsoft!”
And - in a similar vein - Microsoft Works was a Macintosh program years before MS came out with a Windows version. I remember buying version 1.x of MS Works for the Mac before there even WAS a “Windows” OS for the PC!
But - even more interesting than that - I _STILL USE_ my old copy of MS Works (version 3.0a, with a release date of January, 1993) TODAY, running under Classic emulation with Mac OS 10.3.9. It runs great, even faster than when it was new!
How many 15-year-old versions of applications on the PC/Windows side work better today then when they were new?
- John
no problem. Maybe I should have said ‘not only can you do what you now do’, but gone on to explain the integrated software that comes with a mac (’free’), the money you save not having to buy these apps (that aren’t even available on the windows platform), virus checkers, registry cleaners, etc.
I say ‘free’, but I think this is part of the reason macs cost more. iLife is some great software...
So if I wanted to check out OS X (on an existing machine, as opposed to purchasing another) where would I start?
I’ve heard(read) several references to hacks that are required.
Is there a decent walkthrough available?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure, still relatively new to this world. Pinging the swordmaker.
I have given my kids the assignment of watching videos from store.apple.com/mac - they have a lot of tips/tricks and how-to’s...some cool stuff.
swordmaker - see the questions on previous post...thanks...and I don’t know how you keep up with everything...much appreciated.
It has nothing to do with marketing strategy by Apple.
It has to do with the Colleges electing to provide lectures and class notes in Podcasts and making sure that their students have the equipment to access those Podcasts and class notes. The Colleges are purchasing the iPhones and iPod Touches from Apple. Apple is not providing them for free.
There were a lot of those Trash-80sthat you think don't countthat were used in schools. I also serviced a lot of schools with Commodore labs.
At some point we have to ask WHY is apple stuck in the rut.
What "rut" is that?
So by ‘podcast’ you’re referring to an .mp3 file, correct?
Hardly necessary to have an ipod for that.
If you want to try, the essential information is available on the OSX86 Project Website.
Let me know how it works out for you. Just don't expect any support or updates from Apple.
It's also about what you DON'T have to do while still being productive.
With a Mac, you will never see the slow down in operation you often see on Windows machines after a few months of use. You don't have to defrag your hard drive. You will never have to clean the Registry (there isn't one!). Routinely re-installing the OS is almost unheard of on Macs. As of now, you won't have to download virus, adware, and spyware definitions and you won't have to scan your computer and hard drive for the malicious files that may meet those definitions. Your computer's performance is not degraded by background operations of those anti-malware applications. Opening emails is not fraught with danger.
Waiting for the system to start-up and/or shut-down is considerably less time consuming on a Mac.
It has been said that Mac OS X is like an English Butler, appearing at your elbow with what you need, when you need it, and, unobtrusively anticipating your every wish, quietly and efficiently; Windows has been described as like a Frenetic Boy Scout, eagerly announcing to the user every thing it is doing and expecting a merit badge for merely doing its job.
A lot of podcasts are video. So, no. That's why the colleges are issuing either iPhones or iPod Touches... both of which have 3.5" screens.
No "kickback" but certainly education and quantity discounts, just as Microsoft provides education and quantity discounts, just as every other business would provide education discounts and quantity discounts.
. . . kind of like they push Marxism.
Some of the colleges providing the Apple products are Conservative Christian institutions.
