Colleges are handing out iphones and ipods to students.
Good (long-term) marketing strategy. It has nothing to do with marketing strategy by Apple.
It has to do with the Colleges electing to provide lectures and class notes in Podcasts and making sure that their students have the equipment to access those Podcasts and class notes. The Colleges are purchasing the iPhones and iPod Touches from Apple. Apple is not providing them for free.

They're just pushing Apple because of its superiority...
kind of like they push Marxism.
