With the 6.20 (classic & GPU) and 6.22 (SMP) clients out, we (Dr. Pande and the F@H team) can start looking forward to the next steps in client development. We still have some last bits of work to completely unify the clients, but the hard part is already completed there for the most part.
The 6.2x series introduces several new features for donors, but in time, the clients have been getting gradually more and more complex to use. The Win/SMP and multi-gpu setups are examples of very challenging setups. Our primary plans for the future are to make setup much easier, especially for the very challenging clients (Win/SMP, multi-gpu). Our dream client install would be a single installer that would install either the classic, SMP, or GPU client based on donor choices during the install process, and the installer would take care of complex install situations (such as multi-gpu).
It may take a while to get to a client installer like that. In the mean time, we are looking to improve our installation instructions to make the process easier with existing clients.
We have spent a lot of effort developing these new clients and putting all of our effort into getting them to run well (the GPU2 client/core has gotten a great deal of effort, which has paid off in the transition from GPU1 to GPU2). It's now time to concentrate on usability and ease of installation.
Our hope is that with this completed, we will have a very advanced set of clients, but with very easy installation. That's easier said than done, but that's where we're headed.
This thread will discuss the updates to Folding@home that have been published this summer.
We strongly encourage you to look at your old computers to make sure they are still folding, and to install the newest clients on your new computers so that you can be a part of a brighter future for us all.
Please check your systems and the folding logs to ensure that they are still folding PING.
If you paid for your kids computer and sent them off to school, be sure that these shiny new systems are Folding for Team Reagan!
Young people may not see a time when they are older, but we sure do.
Pings out to the folding team.

I want to join! what’s Fr’s folding team name?
How does it work?: You download a safe, tested program (see link below) that is certified by Stanford University. It gets work from Stanford, runs calculations using your spare computer power, and sends the results back to the University.
Is it safe? Yes! Folding@Home rarely effects computer performance in any way and won't compromise your privacy in any way. It only uses the computing power you aren't using so it doesn't slow down other programs.
How do I get started folding for Team FreeRepublic?:
1.) Download the folding program from Stanford University's folding download page (Folding@home Client Download). Type in your desired user-name.
2.) Type in 36120 for the team number. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - if you get the number wrong, you won't be folding for team FreeRepublic!
3.) The third question asks, "Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a service?" - We recommend you answer YES. Otherwise you will have to manually start the program after every reboot.
How can my computer help? Even if they were given exclusive access to all of the world's supercomputers, Stanford still wouldn't have as much processing power as they get from the supercluster of people's desktop systems Folding@home relies on. Modern supercomputers are essentially a cluster of hundreds of processors linked by fast networking. But Stanford needed the power of hundreds of thousands of processors, not just hundreds.
There's no reason to not get involved! It's free, easy, and you can know you're helping every minute without lifting a finger.

done =)
We are Team 36120 - FReeper Folders - A tribute to Ronald Reagan.
We started as a team back in 2001 or 2002. I was involved in the Genome @home distributed computing project back in the mid 90’s.
As I watched a couple family members pass with Alzheimer’s Disease, I looked around and found F@H.
We were very small for many years, but a former FReeper named soccer maniac started heavily promoting the team, and we exploded after that.
Read a couple of early threads - they are fascinating with excitement of competing with the (UN)Democratic Underground team.
You have been faithfully BTTT our threads for many years now.
Thanks again!

Active CPUS are defined as those which have returned WUs within 50 days. Active GPUs are defined as those which have returned WUs within 10 days (due to the shorter deadlines on GPU WUs). Active PS3's are defined as those which have returned WUs within 15 days. |
*TFLOPS is the actual teraflops from the software cores, not the peak values from CPU/GPU/PS3 specs. Please see our main FAQ, PS3 FAQ, NVIDIA GPU FAQ, or ATI GPU FAQ for more details on specific platforms. |
will my Nvidia FX5200 do folding as well?
Are those stats in your post 10 for our FReeper team? Or is that the entirety of Folding @ Home?
Our stats are listed here:

About 2/3 of our folders use their FReep names. Makes it easy to ping other folders.
Of course, for about $100 a nice, shiny new 8800GT+ can reside in your system ...

Clipped and modded this from Extreme Overclocking Folding -- have grown quite a bit in the past year. The 'Active' are those adding points in the past week, and not an indication that the 'Inactive' ones are not contributing. Every fold helps, I still have my WinME active, but it only completes about one every eight days.
lol I really need to upgrade my video card. it’s the oldest piece of hardware in my system. I am running an Athlon 64 2.0 Ghz though.
That's really cool but I need a textbook to go along with it.
