The FR Gun Club is a daily thread we started for the entertainment and stimulation of all the shooters on Free Republic. The topics will include anything related to shooting. Threads could be about safety, target shooting, competition, self defense, concealed carry, hunting, products, whatever.

The topic was opened with Shooter 2.5's Friday Gun Porn thread for some general fun. This thread is a little more serious, but the general tone of the subject will be anywhere in between. There's one rule: No cannibalism. There are enough forces trying to get rid of us already. They don't need, or deserve, any help.

We hope you'll enjoy this topic.

I always knew I thought differently about things than most people. Desiring to learn new skills, shooting, hunting, rock climbing, martial arts etc...., but I nevedr really understood the reason(s) behind it.

This thread really explains it in very plain simple terms.

Thank you for the great post

From article: But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? Then you are a sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero’s path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

I try to never miss anything written by Mr. Grossman. His thoughts about armed defense go straight through to psyche defense, as well. I was reading his works long before I met his son who was dating my daughter. And so, I got to visually see the effects of such affirmative parenting: You'd never meet a finer, more gentler and sensitive warrior than Mr. Grossman's son.

As a citizen, a hunter and one who owns firearms, I am convinced that over 50% of the people who live within the borders of the United States are not worthy to be citizens of this country. I would start with the Hollywood Idiots first but eventually they all have to go.

Every day the say or do something which provides aid and comfort to the enemies of America. The say things like George W. Bush is worst than bin Laden, Saddam, the leaders of Iran, North Korea, Venezuela etc. They fit the profile of citizens of Old Socialist Europe. Europe can have every last whining BDS diseased one of them. In exchange, I would take members of the European Military (only the ones who feel that defending Western Civilization is worth the fight). Others may also qualify but not one slug who was in Germany for example chanting "OMAMA" when the fake 'messiah' was last there.

We would all be better off if they left. Europe would have a new population pool to offset the rise of Islamofasism and we in the U.S. could start having 3 or more children per family.

I am talking about families who raise there children to be self sufficient, peace loving warriors instead of sheep.

But if you are authorized to carry a weapon

Nice article.

Kinda leaves out those of us who believe The American Citizen is "authorized" to be armed, in church, school, commercial aircraft, anywhere, by the providential circumstance of his birth.

A lot of "sheepdogs" out there would have a problem with that. Many natural "sheepdogs" among us are seen as "sheep" by the Official "sheepdogs", and if the "sheep" dare to arm themselves, they are seen as "wolves".

IMHO, if the People were properly permitted to arm themselves and carry on as Free Citizens, the Official "sheepdogs" would be needed only as cleanup crew.

Editorially, the article could’ve been tightened up a bit, but it was still a good read. Thanks! :)

“The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence.”

I notice that many conservatives are alarmed about violence in movies, and yet our violence keeps dropping while the number of guns is very high. Obama would probably agree with those conservatives and want to ‘clean up’ movies [but sex would be OK— heck, he wants them to have sex-ed in kindergarten].

Our ‘intention to use’ a gun has soared since WWII, but I think that's a good thing. “If you brandish your weapon, be ready to kill.” FRegards....

I can understand the sheep. It must be nice to live your life and never know what it’s like to be in a fight, to be robbed or to have any act of violence happen around you.

What I don’t understand is when the sheep do find out exactly what our world can be like in it’s terror and horror and they still don’t see the connection in trying to save themselves by learning to fight back.

The only thing I can figure out is they don’t want to dedicate the time, money and effort in learning how to fight back. Either that or they just don’t want to think about it.

Perhaps a word about “Cannibalism”. What sig226 means by use of that term is the tendency among hunters and shooters to form exclusive cliques around their particular favorite subdiscipline of a chosen sport, to the extent that they may even act to exclude or speak in detriment to other sub specialties. Among the firearms fraternity, a common example of a “cannibal” is the trap or skeet shooter who will be heard saying “I don’t see why anybody needs to own a handgun, so I don’t mind a handgun ban”. Probably the most visible and widely known example was the statement once made and since sincerely retracted, by Jim Zumbo, to the effect that he didn’t see a legitimate hunting use for “black rifles”. He was nearly handed his head on a platter, and having been educates as to how erosion of second amendment rights can happen incrementally enabled by his former thinking, he has since become a staunch advocate for ALL gun owners.

The point sig and many of us who love and practice a wide variety of shooting disciplines want to hammer home is that if we don’t hang together, we will all hang separately.

I currently don’t engage in long range target shooting with big bore rifles, but I will someday when I have more time and I enthusiastically support those who do and work hard to fight against .50 caliber bans that have become a popular target for anti second amendment lawmakers.

Same goes for the full-automatic fraternity. I am laying groundwork to join that soon.

Anything that launches one or several directable projectiles out of a muzzle, by force of pressurized gas, is protected by the second amendment as far as I’m concerned and is fine with me as long as you handle it competently and safely.

Shoot ‘em up!

I have seen to many people in this perpetual state of denial. Evil can't won't happen here, now, to them, or any member of their family.

But when it does that have one of two reactions, instant catatonia, or wailing and gnashing of teeth that the government didn't do more to protect them. But they almost never will seek to attain the skills to defend themselves.
