I happen to know a young man who routinely attended the church service mentioned in the thread. He had a concealed carry permit, due in part to my efforts.

He routinely carried his weapon to the service. By chance, he happened not to attend the service in which the attack occurred. He always regretted that, and thought that he could have made a difference.
