Frankiep made this observation a couple of weeks ago, and I think it applies rather well.

I believe that it is the combination of two things. One, that leftists are patient. Not saying that they are more patient than rational people, but their patience is key. Two, leftists have very skillfully made their agenda into a ratchet. That is, they understand that is self defeating to try to get every leftist policy/program they want implemented all at once. Instead they focus on securing small victories, “ratcheting” them in place as the widely accepted societal standard, then working towards their next small victory. If they fail it’s no big deal because their ratchet has guaranteed that even when they lose, they win.

This is something that conservatives can learn from. Leftist’s ideals and visions may be driven by emotions and feelings, but the manner in how they work to achieve their goals is very rational. Conservatives on the other hand have ideals and visions driven by rational thought, but the manner in how we work to achieve our goals is very irrational and emotion driven.

The conservative, for the most part, is very absolutist and will disregard out of hand any policy or politician who does not fit the mold of conservative one hundred percent (I am only speaking generally). The leftist will champion any person or policy that will in some way advance his agenda even if it does not fit the leftist mold one hundred percent. As a result, leftists are constantly making gains, or at the very least in a position to fight for gains, while conservatives are almost always playing defense. A perfect example of this is the gay marriage issue. Ten years ago would it have been considered a conservative ‘victory’ that a judge stated that a ban voted on by the citizens of a state didn’t violate the state constitution? Even when they lose, they win.

The perfectionist Conservatives already did their protest in 2006. What did that get them? It got them and the rest of us John McCain. Do you really believe that another protest is going to make things better?

I thought you protest voters said last time that a protest vote would "fix" the problems in the Republican party. Evidently it didn't work if you folks want to protest again.

"I hope that I am wrong, but, I have a feeling that we are not going to like what they come up with."

Looking at the facts, we know that four of the justices will rule in our favor. The ultimate swing vote is Kennedy and if we can read into his questioning, there is no doubt that they will rule that the 2A affirms a right of personal ownership of firearms. I think by that logic they will have to strike down D.C.'s gun ban because it bans a whole class of firearms and makes the citizens keep their long guns inoperable.

The rest is where its up in the air. Will they remand the case back to the lower court to decide what is a reasonable retriction? Who knows. We will definitely like at least part of the ruling. The rest is up in the air.

One other thing, I believe if Buzzy Ginsberg and Souter rule for D.C. they will be going against their consent of a written majority from a lower court ruling they sat on. Not that it would be astonishing that judges would be duplitious, but it could possibly be a 7-2 decision also.

Except for emergency matters, the SC usually issues its decisions on Tuesday at 10 am. It now releases them electronically, so sites like Cornell Law will have the entire text of all decisions.

Trust me, I know these things.... LOL.

A ratchet one notch in the other direction would have been fine. I was willing to vote Thompson, Huckabee, or even Romney as they were at least TALKING like they wanted a rightward movement.

All I'm getting from McCain is a ratchet Leftward.

This isn't a "protest" vote, it's about survival at this point.

No, it is not about survival, it's about suicide.

It is of course your decision to make, but just don't try to sell me on the idea that this is something good.

I'm just as pissed as anyone else here about McCain. My form of protest is a little more constructive I think. I will vote for McCain, but I will not donate one single penny to him or to the party. John McCain wants the money out of politics, well then I'll make DAMN sure that there is none of my money going into his politics!

The last time us Conservatives protested, we got Bill Clinton for two terms. I don't want to take that ride again.

No, it is not about survival, it's about suicide.

You are free to commit suicide any time you want. Just don't expect the rest of us to jump off the cliff with you.

It's your plan of action that leads to more liberalism and death.

YOUR plan of action will lead to death. Please don't try to kid yourself or the rest of us here.

Your repetition does nothing to increase your veracity. McCain is politically LEFT of Barr. A Vote for McCain is a vote for more RINO liberalism.

Don't kid yourself, because you aren't kidding anyone else.

Likewise kiddo.

McCain is politically LEFT of Barr.

I agree completely.

A Vote for McCain is a vote for more RINO liberalism.

My vote for McCain is against the marxist Obama. Your vote for Barr is for futility.

Don't kid yourself, because you aren't kidding anyone else.

Do you honestly believe that Bob Barr can win the election?!?!?!?!

Kiddo? Been a while since someone tried pulling that one on me, n3wb13.

My vote for McCain is against the marxist Obama. Your vote for Barr is for futility.

No, you are just voting for a different level of socialist. Enough people voting for real conservatism, Barr, is the very definition of pulling ourselves back from your Lemming-like plunge off the cliff.

Do you honestly believe that Bob Barr can win the election?!?!?!?!

No. Because of attitudes like yours, I think we are screwed. Just don't expect people like me, who apparently take our political views a LOT more seriously, to kowtow to your Party over Principle cheer-leading.

I hope that they do. When it comes to the courts or government I have learned to expect the worse but hope for the best.

I agree. I’ve been done with all these rats.

I’ve held my nose for most of the elections I can remember, and I’ll not hold it again.

Voting for the “lesser evil” sure as hell hasn’t furthered anyone’s cause, it just keeps the slow drift in motion, and does nothing to stop it.

I’m more worried about trying to help weed out the skank rats at the local and state levels these days.

The POTUS vote this cycle is a complete and utter left and leftier jokefest.

Every time there is a 5-4 decision, with the CONSERVATIVES in the MINORITY, I think of the two GOP Senators who voted against Robert BORK, Specter and Warner, and how their vote has wrought havoc on our constitution and altered the course of our nation's history for the worse.

Kennedy votes with the SOCIALISTS about 60% of the time!!

Barr has less of a chance at winning than a dead corpse.

That's why I'm voting for McCain.............[rimshot]

The only upside to an anti-gun ruling would be that it would be a deathblow to the Obama campaign.
