With the 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) beginning next week, MacRumors provides this Rumor Roundup as a summary of major rumors circulating around the Mac Web before the big event (previous roundups: 2007, 2006).The 3G iPhone
The 3G iPhone will be announced at WWDC 2008. There really can be no doubt. It's certainly been no secret that the iPhone will eventually adopt 3G technology. When Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone in January 2007, he specifically said (video clip) that Apple plans on making "3G phones and all sorts of amazing things in the future". Fast forward to the today (aka "the future") and there's been a growing mountain of evidence that we will see the 3G iPhone on Monday. In fact, as early as March we felt there was enough evidence to recommend people wait to buy an iPhone because of the likely June release.

Mac OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
TUAW first reported that Mac OS 10.6 would be introduced at WWDC with a focus on security, stability, and performance. Arstechnica later revealed that 10.6 is code-named "Snow Leopard" and also expects the software to be Intel-only and released in January 2009. Despite some early doubts about the validity of this rumor, it appears that multiple sources have confirmed these rumors. The timeframe also falls in line with comments by Steve Jobs regarding their plan to continue Mac OS X updates every 12-18 months.

If the new 3G iPhone has GPS, I’m in !!
I really like the iPhone design. Plus, it would be nice to be able to combine my current cell phone, Palm Pilot, and Video iPod into one device. I have been thinking about acquiring a hand-held GPS (like the Mio) for awhile now, since they have come down in price. However, I have been holding off buying one waiting to see if the new iPhone will have GPS. If it does, that will be FOUR devices in one, from my point of view.
An “offer” I can’t refuse!!
Is it Monday yet??
..... as long as Apple continues to support Power PC for a few more years, I'm okay with that. I'm still happily using 10.4.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
I know it really isn’t the normal place for them, but I’m hoping for updated MacBook Pros. I’m fairly set on getting one before school starts back, and I definitely want to get the latest and greatest. Last upgrade was all of about a month before the Intel ones came out, that stung a little bit.
If they don’t come out here, please Steve either do it before August or not at all.
Why would Apple market a computer “designed exclusively for new developers”? I don’t get it.

I had a G4 and was looking forward to upgrading to Leopard - until, at the last minute, they announced that an 800 MHz G4 was too slow to run it. That surprised me a lot - but it pushed me over the edge and I got a new iMac and put the G4 out to pasture as a hand-me-down to the grandchildren. The G4 is working out well for them, and the 20" screen and the expandable text box I'm typing in now - a feature of Safari under Leopard - work great for me. Love spotlight, too.
I like the speed upgrade, but it really wasn't something I could justify paying for, in and of itself. But I do enjoy it.
As Ballmer said, "Developers! Developers! Developers!" If this is cheap enough it might get more non-Apple developers in on the game since they can't run OS X on their current hardware.
Some people found PPC drivers in the “Snow Leopard” code, so apparently the Intel-only rumor is shaky.
At this point, all they can do with the MBP is a new case design and Centrino 2. Centrino 2 is delayed until August.
I’m hoping for regular MacBook updates. That line needs attention far more than the Pro. Aluminum case, LED backlighting, 8-bit displays with higher resolution, multi-touch trackpad, etc etc.
It's a low-priced box designed so developers can play around with porting to their apps to OS/X without spending a fortune.
Looks like a replacement for the MacMini could be in the works as well? :’)
That looks like a bad CG rendering on the “web page shot”.
Is it real GPS? Or just tower triangulation? I’m hearing mixed reports...
How is this different from my Palm Treo 700p?
Ok, my Treo doesn't have a working GPS installed, though I can get one for it.

Not quite... multi-touch screen: Uncheck.
Plays music and videos: Check
Not very big videos or very many: Your Palm Treo 700p has 32 MB RAM; 128 MB flash memory (62 MB available)
The iPhone comes with either 8 or 16 Gigabytes Connects to Internet: Check
Uh, Your Treo 700p's screen is a 2 inch x 2 inch, 320 x 320 pixel.
The iPhone's screen is 2 inch x 3 inch, 320 x 480 pixel. A larger screen.
Your Internet experience is limited to mobile optimized websites:
"The Palm web browser is Blazer 4.5 - a far cry from the advanced Safari browser used on the iPhone. There are two modes to browse the internet - Optimized and Widescreen mode. Optimized mode does just that - optimizes webpages to work on mobile phones. This will make pages load faster, but often it results in errors on the page, such as weird layouts or overlapping text. Widescreen mode shows the page as it was meant to be seen. The only problem here is that the 700p does not have a widescreen display, so you are forced to do a lot of scrolling to see a page in its entirety."
Am I missing something?
Looks as if your Treo is missing quite a bit.
