Hello Comrade.
Welcome to the Free Republic, your Engrish skirrs are impressive for an American Business Woman.
And Thirty Years Old, too. You were obviously a good hire for your company. I'm sure they are happy to have you working for them.
Your concern about China is admirable. Personally, I like crab rangoon and tea eggs -- but of the Asian cuisines, Japanese and Viet Namese are better.
In before the zot, and all that. I brought treats for the viking kittens. Lutefisk and catnip FOR EVERYONE!

Let me guess.
You graduated from high school with all "A's" in English.
Then you went to Harvard, where you majored in English.
Am I correct?

Here's my guess - she's a naturalized American born in a foreign country that isn't China. Here's another guess - she's ethnic Chinese, and may speak some variant of Chinese, but only knows the written language of the foreign country in which she was born. This is why her command of English is shaky and her command of Chinese isn't great either. Bottom line, she could be telling the truth about her status.
At the same time, the sense of entitlement to empire is a permanent fixture of Chinese political thought. This is why China's name for itself - zhongguo, or central country - conveys the meaning the of the center of the world, and its emperors have claimed to rule all under heaven.

You know Jessie, if you had claimed to be a Chinese woman who has been learning English for a year, we might have believed you. But generally people from the United States know how to write in English, so we're not buying your "30 year old American" jazz.
Jessie, I am a Christian, and one of my fellow Christians was the wife of a pastor. He ran a house church, and one day he was arrested by your security bureau for holding unregistered services. That night (in the wee hours of the morning, actually) her phone rang, and an angry voice shouted at her to come to the police station and retrieve her husband's body. When she arrived, she found that the police had beaten her husband to death, but claimed he had died of a natural cause. They screamed at her, demanding she cease her weeping over the body, colllect it and leave.
That is what your nation is, jessie. Don't ask me to see it as some wonderful land of lollipops and rainbows.

Thank you for posting this thread, jessie1. It give me the opportunity to post the history of Tibet again. The real history where Tibet conquered China a few times but China never really got a firm hold on Tibet.
