Here's my guess - she's a naturalized American born in a foreign country that isn't China. Here's another guess - she's ethnic Chinese, and may speak some variant of Chinese, but only knows the written language of the foreign country in which she was born. This is why her command of English is shaky and her command of Chinese isn't great either. Bottom line, she could be telling the truth about her status.

At the same time, the sense of entitlement to empire is a permanent fixture of Chinese political thought. This is why China's name for itself - zhongguo, or central country - conveys the meaning the of the center of the world, and its emperors have claimed to rule all under heaven.

You know Jessie, if you had claimed to be a Chinese woman who has been learning English for a year, we might have believed you. But generally people from the United States know how to write in English, so we're not buying your "30 year old American" jazz.

The ast time I went to a Chinese restaurant, there was this loudmouthed idiot a couple of tables away telling his buddies about his personal knowledge of a Chinese restaurant that was shut down in Rockford for using cats as the meat in their food.
