Willard Gore's no stranger to tough fighting. A Vietnam veteran and a career educator with years of experience in labor contract negotiations, he could write a book.
But those were long battles, while his most recent struggle was very, very brief, happening at lightning speed. In fact, the terrorizing suddenness was among the enemy's most dangerous weapons.
Gore was attacked by a bobcat.
It happened Sunday, March 30, about 6:30 a.m. on a farm in the Defeated community of Smith County. He and a friend, Bill Davis, had gone there to hunt wild turkeys.
Davis went to one end of the field, and Gore, dressed in camouflage, sat down, leaning against a tree near some woods at the other end.
He used a "call" device to make the sound of a hen turkey, hoping to attract male turkeys to the area. His shotgun was ready.
"Then all of a sudden, it was on me, and I guess it was the bill of my cap that saved my eyes," he said.

Ping to 21?
How ‘bout the cat in Chicago? Life will go on. To a cougar, the homeless taste like chicken.
My cats think they can do that.
Yes, Puma are actually such shy and timid creatures who avoid human contact - unless there’s a meal to be had.
My sister is a 58 year old pentecostal widow who carries a .357 Smith to split wood. At her home in Mendocino County, CA tracks started appearing near her fish pond a couple of years ago. These things have wiped out all the wild pigs and most of the deer.
Used to be deer wouldn’t come within about 100 yards of her house. Last year one momma doe raised her fawn mostly in the back yard. It seems people were less frightening than the cats.
Shoot, Shovel, Shut Up.
Thanks for the ping! The outdoors is full of surprises.

There were Gores in Tidewater Virginia in the late 1600s.
Years ago we lived in an old house that had two foot walls. We had an aquarium in one of the windows and my husband’s favorite way to maintain an aquarium is without a heater or a pump so usually this one just had a flat pain of glass. It was our cat’s favorite place to stretch out. He could look down at the fish and out at the birds. One day my H was cleaning the tank and left the glass top off. That cat literally turned around in mid air. No water spilt, not a drop on him.
A news report involving our domestic cats big cats cousins. =^..^=
Bookmarked. Just seen those 3 pictures showing a couger with glowing night eyes, just the couger’s domestic cousins. =^..^=
My sister lives near Defeated. LoL imagine living in Defeated Tennessee. LOL
It is beautiful there though. We always go to center hill dam to camp and fish. There are turkies all over the place there.
Maybe it was named after a man with no legs.
Holy Smokes! Is that a cougar? That thing is huge!
Yup, that’s a cougar.
It’s a shame that most cougars are more or less insane, they’d make great guard animals if they were friendlier to humans.
