Ladies and gents,
I have a problem. I've posted here for years, and I've let it slide until now. I should have asked these questions before, but I was too lazy/indifferent to bother. Anyway, it's gotten to the point where I can't take it anymore. I can't post pictures. I can't italicize the text that I want to respond to. I can't post links. I can't post text in different colors or fonts. I've tried tinkering with the settings on Free Republic. I've tried tinkering with my web browser. Can someone out there give me an idiot-proof explaination of what I can do to remedy this problem. I'll be forever greatful. Heck, I may even send a small donation to FR in your name. Just...please...help me.

the easiest way to figure stuff out on your own is to click source and copy what others are doing.

Here's a list of
HTML Tags that will do what you're looking for.

Take a starter course for HTML (you can google it) and then use what you find. You have to use tage to do things to the text, or post pictures, or make links.
Open and close < > surrounds the tag.
i = italics, then /i to end italcs
b = bold, then /b to end it.
img src= posts an image. with the URL for the image in double quotes.
Remeber to place the < > around these commands.

Same here. I have followed the idiot proof instructions on how to post a picture but I have never been successful. I am likewise ashamed.
It is a shame because over the years I have had some excellent photos to share.

Here's an example of a pic with a URL of:
http://www.jeffhead.com/redseadragon/USN-CVNEnterprise-1.jpg
Use this command:
< img src="'http://www.jeffhead.com/redseadragon/USN-CVNEnterprise-1.jpg" >
And it produces this:

I’m with you brother. I feel your pain. I have had the same problems. In addition I have been unable to get girls to date me.
To: Bishop_Malachi
Why are you having problems? If you have posted before using colors?
And posted pictures?
Nothing has changed at FR when using the correct HTML.

Again, for an image with the URL:
http://www.jeffhead.com/redseadragon/USN-CVNEnterprise-1.jpg
Use this command:
< img src="'http://www.jeffhead.com/redseadragon/USN-CVNEnterprise-1.jpg" >
And it produces this:
Then for bold, this command:
< b >MAKE THIS BOLD< /b >
Produces this:
MAKE THIS BOLD
For italics, this command:
< i >ITALICIZE THIS< /i >
Produces this:
Italicise this
For color, this command:
< font color=red >MAKE THIS RED< /font >
Produces this:
MAKE THIS RED
and so on.

In order to post the pictures on FR it has to ALREADY be up somewhere on the net, it can’t be on YOUR computer. Took me a while to figure that one out. An easy way is to upload your pictures to “photobucket.com”, once it’s up they have the HTML coding ready to cut and past to get it into your FR post.

All useful responses, but it needs to be said that many sites now have 'comments' posting sections that do many or all of these things without resorting to HTML - and allow for edits of posted comments. FR is pretty badly behind the times, here.

More:
Let's do a link reference to another site/url.
This command:
< a href="http://www.jeffhead.com//" >GO TO JEFFHEAD.COM< /a >
Produces this:
GO TO JEFFHEAD.COM
For a blockquote, this command:
< blockquote >Here is some text that you want to offset into a blockquote. You can use < b >bold< /b > and < i >italics< /i > to further enhance this within the blockquote parameters, < a href="http://www.jeffhead.com/" >place links to good sites< /a >, or pictures within them too!< /blockquote >
Produces this:
Here is some text that you want to offset into a blockquote. You can use bold and italics to further enhance this within the blockquote parameters, place links to good sites, or pictures within them too!

Agreed. I also wonder if the owner of this site necessarily wants to encourage more pictures and whatnot. The purpose of this forum lies elsewhere.
