“like I said Ulcers killed my Father.”
You need to get past that idea that this is hereditary. My family had tons of problems w/ ulcers, but none since docs figured out that a virus caused it all.
What you’re saying is akin to “A cold killed dad, so my kids are prone to killer colds.” It makes little sense.
They say it is a virus or some microbe and can be cured like any infection.
I've been struggling with it for about 3 months now. I went to see 3 doctors before I got the right diagnosis. The definite test for H-Pylori involves breathing in a special plastic bag, even though the disease is in your stomach.
The treatment which is, (and they already have packages made up of the exact dosage, so I guess they have it figured out) 4 different capsules, quite large in size, of antibiotics taken every 12 hours for 14 days. (You can pick up your prescription for $160.)
Three days ago, on the 6th day of the antibiotic treatment, I began to feel almost human again, and I can at last eat. Mine did not go into stomach ulcers, thank the Good Lord!
Hope your daughter will be fine. She's in my prayers.
“Two kids, four grand kids, what are the chances down the line for them having the problem ?”
To repeat -
It’s a virus. Your family just catches the virus — maybe they don’t have a natural immunity, I dunno. But it’s NOT a genetic defect.
And, the meds are light-years better than when ulcers killed your dad (and almost killed my grandfather, mother, uncles, aunts, etc).
Stomachs make acid, it’s part of the digestion process.
When the bacteria colony disrupts the mucus protective layer. The acid starts digesting your stomach.
Needs proper antibiotic and acid pump inhibitor..
Needs further investigation because up to 20% of ulcers can be beginning of a malignancy.
Johnsons with,born 37 me,33 bro,07,dad,10,his bro,85 their dad and maybe 62 my son.Swedish meatballs or cigs?
This is very serious. It can come from extreme amounts of stress.
If there is blood in the stool please have your kids see a doctor.
Like I said, the prescribed treatment seems to be working for me. I was told that if the condition is not completely gone after 2 wks treatment, then you must take the drugs for another 2 wks.
What a rube... Your body does let some bad bacteria "win" because you did not take your RDA of antibiotics or was deficent in antibiotics. Poor nutrition + stress = disease. Don't confuse some short term symptom hack with what is the underlying cause.
Had a bleeding stomach ulcer last year. It followed a complete knee replacement surgery and use of the blood thinner Coumadin (Coumadin is the main ingredient in the most common forms of rat poison).
Less than two days after hospital discharge I was throwing up large volumes of blood. A call to the surgeon resulted in instructions to my wife to get me into the Emergency Room. Three minutes after the 9-1-1 call three local fire fighters were in my bedroom, with one of them getting an IV started. Two minutes later the ambulance arrived, I was placed on a gurney and transported back to St.Vincents Hospital in Portland.
Triage was done in the ambulance and radioed in to the hospital. I was rushed into a room with a team of emergency experts that went to work right away to locate the problem and provide some life saving stabilization. Needless to say, I had left a trail of thrown up blood all the way from inside the ambulance to the emergency room. I completely bled out.
For the next 12 hours the ICU team was doing massive blood and plasma transfusions into me as fast as the IVs could run. In addition, drainage catheters were installed and working, plus an assortment of IVs for various drugs. I felt like a porcupine, but was thrilled to still be alive.
After nearly 14 hours and tremendous effort by the ICU team, my Doctor stated I had had enough and he was “going in.” By this time 13 units of blood and 11 units of plasma had been sent into my body.
The endoscopic procedure was performed right in the ICU, and included the tools to identify, clip, cauterize, and repair the damaged veins. THE INTERNAL BLEEDING STOPPED!
Also, I picked up a hospital borne virus which resulted in another trip tip the ICU and stay in the hospital. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone!
I urge you to see your doctor.
My family history seems to follow yours, I am of English, Irish, and Scots descent, the gut problem seems to follow my ancestors from the Bath area of SW England, Somerset anyway in my Grand Mothers family. Thanks.
If you have a diagnosed case of h. pylori I am assuming it was diagnosed by a gasteroenterologist. A blood test isn’t sufficient. You need the gold standard, a biopsy.
If you really do have h. pylori you need that acid inhibitor and a course of antibiotics. H. pylori is a bacterium and the cure is simple. Go to a specialist. Otherwise you could get some nasty complications.
A week ago I was admiring my new Grand Son and my son said the same thing (endoscopy). My son has had acid reflux for a while so I patted him on the head and told him of the Little Bill curse and that he did the right thing.
I was disturbed that my daughter was throwing up, as she told me, and the color indicated blood. I am glad that they have a treatment but I am concerned that we may have a propensity for this stuff, past is prologue.
I am, btw, Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's degree, and have every confidence in my doctor.
Yes, and no. Depends on the cause. If the ulcers are caused by H. pylori, you’re correct. HOWEVER, if the ulcers are a symptom of something, for example, Crohn’s Disease, there is a hereditary factor.
Pepcid,Zantac,Prilosec....I think they all work in pretty much the same way and I think they're all "pump inhibitors".
Pepcid, Zantac, and Tagamet are H1 inhibitors. Prilosec and Nexium are proton pump inhibitors.
Correction: they’re H2 inhibitors.
What about the use of aspirin and ibueprofen. It can cause stomach bleeding.
