Fred would be an excellent cabinet member or Supreme Court justice, IMHO. But as president, I think we would be disappointed. He'd take the right positions, but get rolled every time.
The idea of a candidate selling himself illustrates everything that is rotten in politics. All the current candidates reek of it. Thompson was the only genuine candidatehe was never tainted by the filth and the garbage.
Its your right to love the stench of corruption, and to ignore anything truly good. But I still say its retarded.
thrilled? Ok, not thrilled since Bush.
But I really like Romney as someone rational, conservative and able to get some things done while articulating the conservative agenda and handling fools like pelosi etc.
a very articulate summary and insightful analysis !
I agree...Bush had the guts to stand his ground. And silly as it is, the primaries are a testing ground.
I think romney can handle the presidency..with Mccain...i think he is way too unstable.
“I spoke with hundreds of SC voters who really liked Thompson, in fact they liked his politics better than any other candidates, but voted for Huckabee or McCain. They thought Thompson couldnt win.”
Wow. This makes me amd and sad at the same time. Didn;t the SC voters realize THIS IS WHAT A PRIMARY IS FOR???!!!
I’ve watched your posts. Fred Thompson was the best shot this country has had placed before it in decades.
Pearls before swine, as they say, and you know who I am talking about.
Yup.. right before he joined the Kennedy wing by endorsing the Huckster. Oh, wait.. that was Hunter.
JimRob made the same choice. If you honestly felt that, you’d stop posting on FR. But you don’t, you’re just a partisan trying to make a point. Try to remember that Free Republic is not a GOP website, it is a conservative website.
We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. ....
From the front page of Free Republic:
Statement by the founder of Free Republic
As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. .... We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. .... We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.
Time for the FALCONservatives to assert themselves.
Death of the GOP and the Birth of a New Political Party

The time may soon come where many of us say, like Ronald Reagans famous quote regarding the Democrat party, I didnt leave the Republican party, the Republican party left me.
This is the very essence of the adolescent, almost pre-pubescent mindset of the current pre-adult United States electorate.
Talk about childish or immature! What was it that the pot called the kettle?
It is up to the VOTERS to educate themselves about the candidates, their positions and their plans. It is NOT the politicians' job to go around hand-feeding dullards, sluggards, and other victims of arrested development still waiting for Mommy to make things right.
I agree with you and have been amazed at the number of so-called conservatives who think candidates must kiss their rear ends to earn a vote.
They sound like Liberals to me.
Personal responsibility is a core belief in conservatism. If people cannot be responsible for their own votes, they don’t aren’t conservatives.
If the duncanistas hadn’t been spamming the FRed threads with lies and out of context trash, we would be seeing TWO Conservatives battling right now, instead of none.
Blame it on your own FR Hunter leadership.
Duncan who?
Well Bush ran against a known moron in 2000 and an obvious traitor in 2004... Its only fair that the Hildebeast would run against the “Snitch” of Hotel Hanoi.. Hes still a snitch to the leftists(dumbocrats).. Bizarro world is reality.. the democrats have the Kryptonite.. Where is Americas RIGHT WING?.. They have disappeared, mugged in some politcal alley....
“JimRob made the same choice”
He isn’t running for office that I know of, and he also didn’t start slinging it at others.
“If you honestly felt that, youd stop posting on FR. But you dont, youre just a partisan trying to make a point.”
et tu, Brute? I wasn’t the one posting the same thing on every thread I could find of a candidate I opposed. I’ll leave FR at the time of my or JimRob’s choosing. Not yours.
“Try to remember that Free Republic is not a GOP website, it is a conservative website”
Which is why I post against Huckabee here, because HE IS NO CONSERVATIVE. He’s a nanny-stater with pro-gun and pro-life leanings. Heck, even Howard Dean was OK on guns. huckabee’s record and even some of his current rhetoric is appalling to those who value personal freedom. Nationwide cigarette ban, anyone?
“The time may soon come where many of us say, like Ronald Reagans famous quote regarding the Democrat party, I didnt leave the Republican party, the Republican party left me.
May be true. I’m not all that thrilled with the GOP these days, either. They clearly don’t relish getting into the ring and mixing it up with the Dems. They scarcely even whimper when they’re getting beat like a rented mule.
As far as the rest of the front page statement, you don’t have to repeat it here for me, I’ve read it, too. I resent the implication that I don’t understand what this site is about.
“Reluctant Fred let you and others down and you snivel about him? GEESH!”
No class NMH, none at all.
“Really? A candidate has to be a demagogue? A cool appeal to the intellect cant succeed?”
I fear not. Which is why Obama is the scariest guy in this race.
I voted in the SC primary for Fred, and knew of so many others who did the same, it’s not the south it use to be my friends, there are so many northerners down here now listed as independants and that’s why the vote went to McCain, the true conservatives here are a-plenty (to use a term from a well know restaurant here in town The Beacon) but with an open primary in Iowa, NH and SC, what chance did a true conservative have? So many now can’t vote for the man, this system is broken, a heap of a mess and in desperate need of an overhaul. You won’t see a true conservative ever again in the White House with the system in place now.
No class NMH, none at all.
No, you have no “class”.
Furthermore YOU, need to GROW UP!
get over yourself and Fred.
GROW UP!
sit in the corner and CRY your eyeballs out.
Than, get up and face reality.
Fred quit. There is no point in carrying a torch for him.
HE let YOU and others down. He is a quitter. He wanted to be anointed. It doesn’t work that way. He failed to WORK for it. He failed to INSPIRE and MOTIVATE others to help him. His "reluctance" killed his chances. A half; hearted candidate will NEVER win. Stop behaving like a sniveling LIBERAL who doesn't get their way. Have your juvenile tantrum somewhere else.
There is a point in carrying a torch for Fred. He is a conservative. As am I and the owner of this website.
It is partly about Fred because of his mind and his abilities and what he stood for, and partly for the things he stood for.
There is no reason to have any strong support for any of these candidates, there is no reason to agree with you when you show colossally bad judgment in every post. Go pound sand.
