To: Recovering Ex-hippie
I liked Fred. That being said, I'm convinced now that he would not have been a good president. The "fire in the belly" thing was true. Having the right position on issues means little if you're not willing to go through the political fire fight to see these positions enacted into law. Thompson would have had the right position on a lot of issues, but I have difficulty seeing him doing the arm-twisting and dealmaking necessary to push through his agenda. I liken him to a quarterback with a perfect understanding of play calling, but who's afraid to get hit.

Fred would be an excellent cabinet member or Supreme Court justice, IMHO. But as president, I think we would be disappointed. He'd take the right positions, but get rolled every time.

I agree...Bush had the guts to stand his ground. And silly as it is, the primaries are a testing ground.

I think romney can handle the presidency..with Mccain...i think he is way too unstable.
