Given that she describes herself as a human pet and is happy to walk around on a lead Tasha Maltby is used to odd looks and even odder remarks.
But nothing had prepared her for the reaction of the bus driver who allegedly told the self-styled Goth and her boyfriend: "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on."
Miss Maltby and her fiance Dani Graves were so angered they have complained to the bus company of being "victimised".
"It is definitely discrimination, almost like a hate crime," 19-year-old Miss Maltby said yesterday.
The music technology student had this defence of her lifestyle.
"I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life," she said.
"I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."
The bus driver, however, has obviously not been listening.
He has repeatedly refused to allow Mr Graves, 25, and his "pet" on to his bus in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
Last month, with Miss Maltby on a leash as usual, the couple tried to board a bus at the bus station.
The driver, who was off duty, was standing near the door.
Mr Graves alleged: "He shoved me off the bus. He called us freaks and he called Tasha a dog.
"He said, 'We don't let freaks and dogs like you on'.
"He basically grabbed my T-shirt and slammed me backwards.
"I got a bit angry and called him a fascist pig."
In a separate incident, police were called when the driver, who has not been named, refused to allow other passengers on board after the couple ignored his orders and sat down.
The couple, who live on benefits in a council house and plan to start a family, have been friends for years.
They started going out together in July and became engaged in November.
Paul Adcock, of bus company Arriva Yorkshire, said: "We take any allegations of discrimination seriously.
"Mr Graves has already contacted us directly and as soon as our investigation has concluded we will inform him of the outcome."
Kind of like this?
If you act like a dog, don’t complain when people call you one.
>>Shes two years older than my daughter. I would do things to this bastard.<<
He might enjoy them.
Or Hot Dog on A Stick.
See - they have their 10 minutes of fame . No doubt the their pics will end up in every tabloid in Britain and they’ll rake in hundreds of thousands of pounds and get the last laugh while leaving free and clear courtesy of the British taxpayer ( many left ? ) . What a racket !
H
Saw a couple in the Goth dress bit in Port Aransas, Texas in July about 2 years ago. I felt sorry for them (after I stopped laughing).
You know, you can take your dog off the leash once in a while, if you have her well-trained. Maybe they should have tried THAT on the bus. If she got up and ran around, you could always whack her on the behind with a rolled-up newspaper.
:-)
Right. I got 4 daughters. Ain’t gonna happen!
When I was a kid, adults used to say that people like that did things just for attention. I think that’s what this is. The young woman is obviously fine with it, and doesn’t look at all abused. Adults used to tell me to ignore such attention seekers and they would stop whatever behavior it was.
Mr. Graves and his “pet” are mighty kooky, but they seem a good deal saner than the bus driver.

I, for one, am glad he has the guts to stand up for decent behavior.
I've seen them at music festivals in 100+ degree heat. Does tend to mess with the desired light complexion though.
You gotta be kidding. She's nice. I'd chain her up....hell, I'd even build her a nice concrete kennel run.
Thats too much. LOL.
Not particularly related to your post, but it causes me to think about other semi-related subjects.
Such as my grandfather was 11 years old when he and his 12 year old brother were forced to quit school and become full-time working men to support their mom, three sisters, and infant brother, due to their dad being killed in an accident.
By the time he was fifteen he was still helping his mom run her little farm but had his own little spread, was married, and had two children of his own.
By the time he died he had been a farmer, a carpenter, a welder, and built grandfather clocks and wooden fishing boats. He raised nine kids and owned a pretty respectable amount of real estate.
Pretty good for someone that never completed more than a few weeks of fifth grade.
Not educated or well-traveled but very busy. No leisure time to sit around trying to out-stupid yourself, IOW.
Its interesting because literally in two/three generations we now have a 19(!) year old and a 25(!!) year old that have yet to live the first productive day of their lives.
It is entirely possible that they will be well into their 30s or beyond before they produce anything of value and also quite probable that they will die having never produced the amount of resources they have consumed to date.
Funny, huh?
She doesn’t have a chin, so the collar would slip off. Meow.
Does she fetch the bone every day???
My sides are splitting...
(Do I really need to include the < /sarcasm > tag?)
I’m 25. If this guy was someone I knew I’d tell him to get some professional help.
