Welcome to the Weekend Singles Thread
Okay, here's the story. I'm sick, and I'm grumpy. We don't have a planned topic for tonight, so I'm going to try to make a "good" from two "bads" or a "right" from two "wrongs."
I arrived home from Christmas vacation on the 29th of December with a sore throat. I spent the 30th, the 31st, and the 1st trying to get better but only got worse. I worked on the 2nd and 3rd. I was off the 4th through the 6th and actually got better. I wasn't 100%, but I was close. I was ready to start my new year. Last Friday, I was starting to feel a little bad again. I went to Wal-Mart to get drugs and orange juice. My orange tree gave me a nice crop this year. I shared some with my folks, but I'm glad that I saved a good supply for myself. They've been helpful. I spent last weekend trying to rest, get plenty of fluids, stay warm, and get healthy. I only got worse.
On Monday, I missed my first day of work. On Tuesday, I missed another. On Wednesday, I felt pressured to get back to work, so I went in the rain. I never made it to my office. I started coughing as someone driving through the plant stopped to offer a ride. The cold, wet day was too much for me, and I couldn't get any air. I ended up in the nurse's office for about an hour. They finally took me to my car, and I was okay to drive home. I haven't tried to return.
Today, I saw a doctor, and he gave me drugs. He gave me pills to kill any bacteria that could be causing the problem and an inhaler to reduce my congestion.
I've been FReeping a bit because I'm so concerned about the presidential race, but my head isn't working well. I'm not saying things as well as I'd like. I'm also running to be a delegate to our state convention. The state convention will determine which candidate really gets Louisiana's delegates. Otherwise, I've watched more Law and Order than I can stand. I haven't taken a walk in over two weeks. I don't look like a guy addicted to walking, but not being able to take a walk is making me crazy.
Now that you know the situation, here's what we'll do. I invite everyone to share their home remedies for colds, flus, stomach ailments, and anything else that they have in mind. Let's hear about everything from the standard chicken soup to those old herbalist cures that the mountain people knew in past generations. I may not get around to using this information, but maybe we can have some fun and exchange some folklore.
Answers to bonus questions:
1. I like to watch "The Cosby Show" when I'm sick -- mainly because there's a cable station that shows reruns of it during the day and I can't stand most of those other silly daytime television shows.
2. I don't have pets!
3. I prefer to "suffer miserably" alone . . . mainly because I'm not a complainer and don't like anyone making a fuss over me anyway!
I haven't had anyone to take care of me during my adult life, but I'm not sure that I'd want someone. When I'm sick, I tend to be more reclusive than usual. My inability to think well enough for conversation and lack of energy for anything else reduces much of my desire for a partner. I've been single for so long that I may never get used to the idea of being served.
I used to drink RC Cola quite a bit. I don't see it much around here, and I've become more a fan of Fanta Orange when I want something unhealthy and water or Fresca when I want something healthier. When I'm sick, I drink orange juice or Sunny Delight.
The Cosby Show is an interesting choice. If I laugh when I'm sick, I end up coughing myself to death. Otherwise, I can see the appeal.
I am a complainer, but I don't like to be thought of as a complainer. If I'm alone, I can moan when I feel bad and don't have to worry about making someone else miserable. If someone else were around, I'd want to avoid making things miserable for her.
I love action/adventure ANYTIME - well or not-so-well...
It gets the imagination and the blood going!
1. Old John Wayne movies. I have a good selection of his DVDs to choose from.
2. No pets now. Back when I was married, if I was sick the pets stayed away from me. They were smart. [grin]
3. When I am sick, I lock myself away. I don’t want to see, hear, or even think about anyone. Even when in the Hospital, I just want to be left the @#$%@#$%#@$% alone! LOL!
When I’m sick, the dog jumps onto the foot of my bed to “guard” me.
I like to watch the original Star Wars trilogy, in a row (Epidodes IV-VI). I rarely do this as an adult, only when I am sick. "2. When you are sick, are you more likely to cuddle with your pets because you want comfort or less likely because you are worried about giving them germs or even getting something extra from them?"
No pets, prefer women. :-)
"3. When you are sick, do you really like to have someone to take care of you at all times or are you more thankful that being single allows you to lock the door and suffer in peace?"
The latter. When I get to the point where I am sick and need someone to take care of me, then I know I am near death's door.
I’m a big Sunny Delight fan, too. But I have to have the tangy original. I’m not much for the California variety. I see they have a red colored one but I never tried it.
Water..Cranberry juice stay away from booze and anything with caffine...
Good luck..Being a sufferer on those damn things myself. I feel your pain.
I'm thankful that I haven't had to be in a hospital in years. I think I'd go insane having that much commotion around me.
I’d love to have women to cuddle when I’m healthy, but I’m not sure that I’d feel the same way when I’m sick. Lacking women, I have to settle for having pets. If you can get women to cuddle with you at either time, I applaud you.
I’m the same way. I always drink the original and only the original.
That one's always worked best for me, too.
So felt I was not in best mood to join in on this thread. Have got my head a bit more in order today so here I am.
Whiskey and ginger wine for the throat.
My mum’s remedy for both throat and chest was hot lemon with honey and cider vinegar - horrible but certainly helped.
As the only pets I have is pigeons would be a bit hard to cuddle but I do remember when small mum bringing in my rabbit for me to cuddle. My dogs have never been the type to cuddle so rabbits and guinea pigs are the ones that got cuddled when I was a child.
When I was younger I enjoyed the being taken care of but as I got older whether it is because it no longer was practical for anyone to take care of me but I tend to want to be left alone more curl up in front of TV with a cup of tea or maybe a whiskey and something and mung out.
