Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Alright... who did not get the memo about it being spring? Why is there fluffy white stuff falling from the sky? I demand answers.
It’s snowing here. Lots, actually.
I just looked outside. Great scott that is a lot of snow for the end of March. Heck that is a lot of snow for January.
Must be that global warming....
It’s Iowa... they get snow there in April...
I don’t think we’re hitting the range Saturday.
I dunno...but we had some of the same stuff yesterday, in *town* anyhow.
I wasn’t intending on trying out how thenewlittlecar did in slightly slushy conditions until next year. :-\ At least it mostly wasn’t sticking. And it turned to rain before I got home.
And it could be worse, I guess. We’ve had blizzards the last week of April back home...
In Virginia, it's called pollen.
It’s 73 degrees here. I’ve gotta take a warm soak to get the chill out of my bones, but after that it should be right pleasant!
Aaannnd I spoke too soon. Snowin’ again. Just an eensy bit.
Off to work!
Okay, I think I’ve probably asked this before...
My daffodils and tulips did not fare well this year. I don’t know if they’re overcrowded or if I have a critter problem. I do know that I’ve still got moles/voles in the yard and we have lots of squirrels.
I figure my options are:
1) Dig them all up and replant them in the fall. Not my favorite option.
2) Mulch really well and mark where nothing came up. Replant there in the fall. I’m thinking I could mulch around what came up (and did or didn’t bloom) and put in something like golf tees that would mark where I could plan in the fall.
Which option is best? and,
If I go with option one, when can/should I dig them up?
Discuss.
I reccomend option 1... cuz it involves more werk fer yuh...
I weren’t askin’ ~you~...
Yep, that would do it! ;o)
Heh, well SirKit does all that figurin. I just go out and start lookin when he says it’s coming over.
Well, next time he’s lookin’, ask him to look fer Richmond...
We’re surrounded by so many trees we wouldn’t likely see anything. But I should also check for when we’re at thebeach.
I think it was in 1997, that we got our April Fool’s snowstorm. We had 21” or snow in that one event. Ghastly, it was, but at least it wasn’t too deadly cold at the same time. It took weeks for that stuff to melt, because it was piled up several feet on either side of our driveway!
I’ll ask him to check the next high trajectory for a pass over Richmond.
I’d go with mulching them and marking them. Could be they’re just late coming up, too. My daffodils and hyacinth have about 1-1/2” of green shoots coming out of the ground, but I’ve never noted when I’ve seen them in past years, so I don’t know if they’re early, late, or what. I’m not much of a gardener. ;o)
The daffodils just aren’t blooming like I thought they would.
But I like your plan. And not doing the Christmas show I’ll have time to remulch and feed them over the winter.
(see how I worked that in that I’m still not doing the show?)
