HEATH, Ohio: A spear point found in a central Ohio field by a farmer has been identified by archeologists as being used by hunters to kill mastodons about 15,000 years ago.
Forty-four-year-old Don Johnson of Heath found the Clovis point about four years ago while on a walk.
Brad Lepper, an archaeologist with the Ohio Historical Society, says the point is one of the only remaining types of evidence of the Clovis Paleo-Indians. The group, named for their weapons, used the points for about 500 years.
Experts say the point is made of Coshocton flint, a grade of stone used for weapons and tools.

good work.
when i was a kid i looked and looked and looked for arrow heads and found very few.
AAH but according to some, the earth is only 6,000 years old.
How can that thing be 15,000 years old?
Didn’t think Clovis Points were all that rare. Not here in Indiana, anyway.
from COLUMBUS DISPATCH:
Well maybe its news because Don Johnson found it.
"...Don Johnson of Heath found the Clovis point about four years ago while on a walk. "
It was created old by a puckish God to fool modern scientists...
Don Johnson of Heath holds the Clovis spear point he found sticking out of the ground a few summers ago. The flint artifact is 15,000 years old.
DID YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THAT????
It’s MAYBE 2 inches long!
MASTADONS????
ROFLMAO!!
I’ve seen ‘em 7-8 inches before, and I’m not really a hunter or collector. Just play in the dirt a lot
Obsidian, OTOH....
Looks a little smaller than I expected. Ol Don Johnson was paying attention.
No; it is news because Don Johnson is now a farmer.
the Knox County tree farmer
Hope he's a better farmer than he was an actor.
Did it have the date and mint mark on it??
I grew up in central Ohio and found so many arrowheads I had no idea they were special. I remember a cigar box of them that I wish I had now.
I found a 3 inch spear tip in perfect condition made of flint or some other white-copper colored stone in the sand on the beach on Daufuskie Island across from Hilton Head about 14 years ago. Its bigger than that one. Its wrapped in bubble wrap in my upstairs dresser drawer. Grandma Norma was pissed I didn’t give it to her for her collection. My son takes it to show and tell.
We live on the pinnacle of civilization where it seems everything has been invented. But 15 or 20,000 years ago a man had to use his brain, his senses and his physical strength to survive.
ROFLMAO!!
I've got a bunch of that stuff, and the largest spear points I have are 9 inches and 14 inches long, and the 14 incher is missing the notched base. I don't know what that guy's holding, but it sure doesn't look like a spear point.
Hey, that’s just a few miles down the road from here.
