My two daughters came home from school the other day singing along to a popular song that the school's third grade will sing for a holiday ensemble. The song was very familiar, written by Johnny Marks and performed by Brenda Lee in 1959, and went something like "Rockin' around, the holiday tree, have a happy holiday. ..."
Wait a minute. "Holiday tree"? Is there such a thing?
I corrected my daughters' poor translation of the classic Christmas song, only to be harshly criticized for my ignorance that everybody doesn't celebrate Christmas, so the school had changed the words.
Hold on. Since when did everyone have to celebrate Christmas to sing a Christmas song?
Do we change historic poetry because we don't believe in what the author envisions?
Do we change classic screenplays because we might offend a few people who don't believe what the writer has written?
Do we change our history books because there are some things written in them that everyone doesn't associate with?
Where does it end?
It ends with tolerance.
So what is tolerance?
The American Heritage Dictionary says: "The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others."
I think it is important to instill this belief in my children. They are attending a public school with other kids who have many different beliefs and, of course, living in a world full of diversity.
I want my children to be able to accept that other people have different beliefs, and I hope they have meaningful and fulfilling relationships with these other children as they grow up together.

Elmer Fudd is on the edge of extinction. It must give libtards an epileptic fit to see a cartoon character going around waiving a shotgun and shooting at ducks.
Guess The Frito Bandito is Also gone forever, too.
IyEEEE IyEEEE
IyEEEE IyEEEE
I am the Frito Bandito
I Love Fritos Corn chips
I Love them I do
I Love Fritos Corn chips
I Steal Them from you !
(Especially for you !)Alt. verse used in later ads
Wait a sec....I think we might be on to something good here. Now we can sing these classic (albeit modified) holiday songs all year round! On any holiday! Like Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th, MLK Day, Valentines Day. Why, the possibilities are endless!
Got any Eid stamps from the US Post Office?
Non-stop idiocy
Remember the saying, "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do"?
But other races, cultures, heritages, classes come to the USA, and do what THEY want to do. Forget what our traditions are, or were.
Why?
...and that's when I smacked the fa-la-la right out of her.
I grew up with
Jingle Bells, Jingle bells,
Santa Claus is dead
G.I. Joe, the eskimo,
Shot him in the he-ead.
Barbie doll, Barbie doll
tried to save his life,
but Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear,
stabbed her with a knife.
Bumping the thread to read in depth later....and bumping those COOL DVD’s that a certain young man I know & love NEEDS for CHRISTmas!!!
I happen to agree with what Johnny Knight wrote & agree with him. Thanks for posting this. ~Pandy~
It’s important to tell children not to be so open minded that their brains fall out.
I hope this young father speaks up loud and clear! We are
letting them stomp Christmas and everything pertaining to
Christ into the ground, while we meekly just turn away for
the sake of “just getting along. (not him personally, but we as Christians)
Can you imagine the Muslims submitting to changing Muhammed to “that old man” or something like that. I don’t think so!
LOL!
Slamming Christians, Christianity, and Christian values, at every turn. That is "tolerance."
Something just popped into my head, and it really makes sense to me...
This whole tolerance thing is based on selfishness. Really. Of course, it’s “explained” as just being inclusive, but that’s really not the case at all.
Being Jewish, when I tell someone “Merry Christmas,” I’m happy for them, glad that they’re celebrating a happy time in their lives. When I sang Christmas Carols in jr high school, they were beautiful songs and being Jewish wasn’t an issue (though we were told that if we didn’t feel comfortable singing the songs, we didn’t have to - the teacher was Jewish too). It was a happy time. Being happy for others.
But this new “inclusiveness” means taking away a celebration from some people: Or forcibly changing it. All in the name of making everyone else feel “comfortable.” This is the height of selfishness.

Never heard that version... Ours went "Jingle Bell, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg..." I don't remember any more.
Of course, for what it's worth, I've had that damned Alvin & the Chipmunks "Christmas Song" in my head for the last 3 days!
Mark
I vaguely remember the beginning of a song from a Mad Magazine from about 237 years ago, set to the tune of Jingle Bells...
Christmas bills, Christmas bills, Piled on the floor,
Every day the mailman comes and brings a dozen more.
Oh Christmas bills, Christmas bills, how the stores will swear.
When they soon discover that my bank account it bare.
That’s all I can remember...

“Well not that it’s a classic screenplay, but they won’t show a lot of Bugs Bunny cartoons these days because of PC reasons”
Really? That’s an outrage. The All American Rabbit..Bugs don’t mess with anyone ‘til they mess with him. And the classical background music. Watching Bugs was the only way a kid growing up in rural Oregon got to hear the classics! What a loss.
Woo hoo, Brenda Lee rocked!!
Those were the days...:)
