Is your wireless hub encrypted. If not it should be. You need to input you encryption key.

Make sure your wireless router is not set to static. Do you have netgear or lynksys?

The function that "automatically" acquires an IP address is DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol). If your 'puter isn't set to use it, it will choose an IP address from a range your router doesn't recognize. That may be your problem.
At the risk of offending the Holy Warriors, this happens with all operating systems. Sorry.

There’s probably security turned on for the network and the laptop needs to be configured for it. The laptop can probably find and connect to unsecured networks just as easily as the iBook, it all becomes a little more difficult if the network is secured though.

My daughter recently bought a new Mac and it would not configure in to our home network.
The problem was simple, I needed to tell the network her MAC address (not be confused with the MAC computer). The network router would only accept devices whose MAC address was previously configured in.

Your router comes with a CD. Put CD in your “primary” computer which is connected to wireless router with an Ethernet cable.
The CD will walk you through the steps of password encryption etc so you can connect wirelessly BUT DO IT SECURELY!
Once you have encryption password set up you must enter this password into laptop for it to connect

It’s also possible that you’ve set up your router to only accept certain devices connected to it. In that case, you will need the MAC address of the laptop and you’ll need to go into the configuration for the router and add it to the list of acceptable devices.
